Reading through the installation instructions for the B&M shift improver kit I just got, I noticed that they recommend Type F trans fluid. Well, first they recommend THEIR fluid. THEN the specify Type F over Type A or Dexron. Too late to call their tech-line then, and its the weekend now. But, does anybody know the reason for this? Will the F react badly with the stuff thats still in the system after draining? Thanx, JY

because b&m trans fluid is "purple" type F to begin with. I would go 1/2 and 1/2 on dexron and type F to be honest.

depends on what the car is used for ( cruiser or drag ) should determine fluid type. regular track abuse, go with type F, around town car will be just fine with dexron.

type F is also recomended in the 727 handbook rebuilders manual , when i rebuilt the 68 727 i went to all type F . and it is a street car , trans shifts clean and fast .
I have over 4 years of summer cruiseing on it and still is clean asthe day i put it in .

Okay, thanks. Good to know. I'm guessin' that the Type F won't react badly with the leftover Type "whatever" thats in the cooler, lines, and converter? The car is strictly a street car. No track time in it's forsee-able future. Funny thing is ("funny" being a relative term), somebody installed this very same exact shift kit in this very same exact transmission at some point in the past. It was money, time, and effort not particularly well spent but, how would you know til you're so far into it that theres no turning back? Oh well, big fun and good experience dinkin' around with the valve body. I'm still a little vague on the fluid types though. It seems that opinions tend to vary, so I'll take any and all. Appreciate the help, fellas. Jonny Y.

It was explained to me like this, a very long time ago. Type F is stickier and improves the grip of the clutch packs. Dexron is a better lubricant and will increase the longevity of the clutch packs.
