First off this is NOT to ask for donations for my daughter's JROTC but to let everyone know how proud I am to have a daughter ( & others) willing to pay tribute to those who suffered through the brutality of the Japanese Imperial Army as well as those lost during the defense of the Philippines.
Her unit will hike 14 miles through a local state park in order to raise funds for Wounded Warrior Project. All monies are going directly to WWP to help all veterans.
I'm pretty hard on some of the younger generations and sometimes forget that there are youngsters who love their country (despite the media only covering the snowflakes calling for America's demise). Its nice knowing there are youth learning about our sacrifices paid in blood and lives made to/for the world and how important our vets should be to everyone.
Thanks

Hard to feel sorry for the IJ when they did **** like that.

Any time people whine about America, I would like to see them walk a mile in the shoes of those unfortunate enough to experience such hell as the Bataan Death March. Kinds makes our current problems seem rather trivial

Bee, like you said...that kind of whining pisses me off to no end. We hear it all the time. I teach in high school nowadays. We've been told for years we can't make students stand for pledge of allegiance. Really pisses me off. So, what I try to do is tell them to stand and pledge that flag and country for those who fought and suffered and gave the ultimate sacrifice so they have the right to sit their butts in that seat. I don't get them all, but most will decide to stand at that.
There are students today that still love their country. Many are just too brainwashed and just unaware!

Side tracked I know, but most people today aren't aware of what these people went through on that March and many other incidents of Japanese atrocities.

It's great she is participating in really two great Opportunities! Good for them!

When I was Blue Cross, they had a survivor from the Death March come to speak at a Memorial Day event. He was a doctor, survived the march, and spent the entire war as a POW. Afterwards he became a surgeon and ended up the Head of Surgery at a couple of hospitals before he retired.

He started out his speech like anyone would, but when he got to talking about the march and his internment, he got really, really, dark. He started out saying "Japanese" and ended with "******* Nip Bastards" and that was when his wife had to help him off the stage as he was totally losing control of himself. They really put him through Hell.

******* Nip Bastards!
And that's is why we razed their Islands to the ground. Reduced almost every city to a pile of smoldering ashes and laid waste to their whole population, killed 90% of 2 generations. They deserved what they got.

GOD bless all those men. I had an older customer that survived that march and was a prisoner for over 3 years. The question is why was there no War Crime Tribunal like in Europe for this and other Nip attrocities? Which there were many. They never signed the Geoneva convention. To-Jo was the only one convicted of war crimes in the Pacific.

I think the answer to that is this: we whipped them, their country and civilian population suffered greatly. We nuked them, and as a nation we were ready to just move forward. Water over the dam.

This does nothing for the poor souls who died or were forced to live as POWs for these pricks though. We should never forget....

It is not exactly fair that Germany gets punished for atrocities while Japan and the Soviets do not.

My great uncle also survived the death march and spent the rest of the war as a POW.....he would never speak about his experiences to anyone.

When he came back after the war, he bought a farm and lived out the rest of his days working in peace.

A Nobel Cause

tell her & here JROTC group "thanks from me"

Actually I think the Japs went after some of,their own people that had been domestically convicted of war crimes. Nothing like what was done to the Germans - but I do believe they went after some. I'm sure not nearly enough were punished. I'm no historian - I saw it in a movie about a pow camp and how, they pursued the guy that was one of the officers. Can't remember the name of the movie - but it was a true story. Actually I think it was the one about that guy that was shot down in the pacific - ran in the Olympics and all that. Angelina Jolie produced it. The guy just died recently. I read the book to. Great story of unbelievable perseverance.

Unbroken

I was surprised, it was a good movie

Yep - that's the book/movie. At the end they said how they went after "the bird" for many years after the war. Can't remember if they ever got him though...

They didn't.
Should have just let the POWs have five minutes alone with him
