I posted in the General tech- no response- maybe should have been here among the racers.

When I was drag racing 20 years ago, we put screws thru the wheel rim edge into the tire bead to keep the tire from slipping on the rim. I don't see that much anymore, With about 400HP 3:55 rear gear. clutch or tranny brake, do I need the screws into the bead with 8-9" slicks? (15")

most guys these days in the 4 x 4 / crawling / drag racing world use actual beadlocks .

No you probably don't have to/or need to use screws, with your combo... slicks with tubes & no inner liners, are usually the ones that slip too, but generally in larger sizes with more grip & more power...

you can always mark the rim & tire, to see if the slick is rotating on the rim, before having to "need to" add any screws also...

Thanks guys for the good info. I have been debating about whether to get tube or tubeless slicks. This makes me lean toward the tubeless..........................MO

I prefer tube slicks over tubeless.. I have seen cars that the tires have moved on the rims and the tire deflate instantly... Car makes a very bad move then..

but wouldn't a rim that is spinning in a tire with a tube snap off the valve stem? it doesn't seem to me that the tube would spin with rim .

something is qwrong, i have run tubeless screwless m/t slicks going low 9's with no issues at all. only thing was losing air after a weekend of racing and it sucked to air up every few days so i just added tubes and screws because running slicks with tubes and no screws is a formula for disaster.
