Been away for a few days....

Welcome back. That looks like s fun time!

Too bad it's a 26 he plane trip away. Lol
Does anybody know if there's anything like that stateside? If not somebody's losing out a goldmine.
I think there are a couple, I've seen vids of one somewhere in the Rockies , probably a ski resort, and one in Appalachia (Va or Tn) I think....
There's also another type on rails in Tn , its like a single car roller coaster...pretty cool looking!

Probably not a single insurance company in the states would want to carry one.

Good point....the Luge carts here have no guide rails, no seat belts, just a helmet and a 15 second verbal instruction.....and you're away. It's called Adventure Tourism. I have seen a guy carted off in an ambulance a few years ago, and I have heard blood-curdling screams from others hurtling down the hill. :D

Wow! New Zealand sounds like heaven!

Over here even your dog can get sued.

Too much liability for the U.S. The pleasure palaces get sued for their merry go round rides - let alone something as hairy as this...... looks fun though - Not me.......

Kiwi, do they have a bar at the too of the hill just before you get to your luge car?
That would be awesome! Wet the nerves down a bit first

We have a hill here I would like to get a sled on some icey day. Coming off the top the bottom disappears from view then a 1/4 mile of 200 ft drop a slight curve a small incline and down again. Estimated distance 3/4 mile total drop of about 250 ft.

That looks like a blast, glad to hear you had a good time with the family too. Your neck of the woods has been on my bucket list for a long time but it just inched up another notch after seeing that! Accidents tend to happen when you refuse to act your age lol:poke: kids love it though.. Just this summer I came barreling down a parking lot with my daughter behind me on our BMX bikes and saw a speed pump.. naturally I thought I'll show her how cool her dad is and launch this thing at a high rate of speed:eek::eek::eek::eek:. Nobody told me speed bumps are made of steel and very slippery when hitting them at an angle, Yeap the front tire washed and I ate it big time... cut up and bleeding! Kids still laugh about it.:rolleyes:

Anyhoo, we always make time to take a trip up the Skyline Gondola and have some rides on the famous Luge. This was to be a more memorable trip for me....picked up a few scratches and bruises on my 3rd run down the hill. No horsing around, and no racing....just having a blast and going at a reasonable pace. I blame the fact that I'm a little taller than most, and my knees interfered with my ability to brake as required (in a panic that is)
Thanks for bringing back that memory! I visited NZ in 1997 and being 6'4" I experienced the same problem to brake :) Nice to see that it still exists.

Cool. The first time I did this was back in 1999. It's still a heap of fun...and I'll do it again no doubt. :lol:

Glad it didn't deter you from wanting to do it again...

reminds me of;
When I was a youngster, we had these things called a Flexy Flyer
Flexy Flyer -racer-.jpg

looked like an ice sled but had wheels instead of ice skids
they had brakes but not too good at speed
you had to kind of rotate the steering forward IIRC
friction brakes {useless really at any speed}
we usually didn't ride them as intended either,
laying down & face forward
I usually sat on it & steered with my feet...
{my sister got her front teeth cracked riding if face down}

anyway;
We had this hill in Concord Calif. called Chauser Hill,
seemed huge when I was a little dude maybe 9-10 y/o
{spelling ?, we called it that it was a Way, Ave. or Drive },
a few streets over, it was about maybe 1/4 mile long with a 250ft drop
{? not sure in reality }seemed really steep, with a short flat run out
on the very bottom...
BUT;
It did have some nice big lawns we could bail out on etc.
Just before it dumped out on a cross street...

It was like a test of manhood/boyhood, intestinal fortitude
{even for the girls, my sister Candy was a shoe in, brave as any of the boys}

Damn we had some crazy wrecks, still it never stopped any of US
from doing it again the next day or week...

Thanks for bringing back the memories :thumbsup:

I had one of those. A neighborhood friend had a Weimaraner (a high power engine for the flexy flyer). We would tie the dog to it with a rope and the kid would get a couple of blocks away and call his dog. It was scary fast and no stopping it.:)

Aloha all saw the build for the 70 roadrunner with a viper motor. I was also thinking of build one with the viper motor. Please help would love to know so ups and downs I did see some pictures. Just wanna chat

Had a small break over the past few days with the family - school holidays, and the boys wanted something different to do. So we spent some time down south in Rotorua. A small city in the the centre of our North Island - a tourist mecca. I blame the fact that I'm a little taller than most, and my knees interfered with my ability to brake as required (in a panic that is) ....video here below was grabbed from YouTube because I left my GoPro setup at the hotel in my haste to get away.:rolleyes: Check this out if you haven't seen this ride before....it is truly an experience....

and here is the part of the run down where I went to pull back on the brakes, hit my knee, and ended up slamming the wall sideways at full speed....( I actually flipped the Luge and had it sitting on top of me)

I ended up underneath my cart, with me left foot wedged in the bodywork, my right shoe in the middle of the track, a mouthful of dirt and a heap of scratches and scrapes. :lol:
The impact was pretty hard and I was out for a second ....bit of a headache, but the helmet did it's job. I get to the bottom and my older boy asks what took so long....and then saw that I was covered in mud and crap.:D Would have looked awesome on film I'm sure.

On the way down to Rotorua I called in to say hello to Paul aka @70 Viper and checked out the latest progress on the Road Runner....it's coming along nicely. I was pleased to hear that Paul has been getting a lot of helpful advice and tips from the guys here at FBBO:thumbsup:

On the way home earlier today we called in to meet up with Jason aka @Chargerjase - another very cool member here at FBBO. Sadly we couldn't see the car as it was at another location, but we had a great time talking about all sorts of things that will get me into trouble later on :lol: Thanks for your hospitality Jason and Cindy.:thumbsup: I can't wait till the weather settles down so I can bring the GTX down your way for a good run. :steering:

Aloha kiwigtx not sure if you guys have a shop. I’m trying to build my car at my house. But would love to see what you guy build.
