hi kids....i have recently found myself in a good position....and somewhat of a quandary. i have a story to tell and maybe this will explain things and bring things more to light

back a few weeks ago when i was having trouble with the belvy flooding, i found myself on the side of the road with the hood up. along comes this dude on a Norton motorcycle. he pulls up and says "...MAN,,,I REALLY HATE TO SEE A MOPAR STRANDED LIKE THAT " . my reply was.." well ..im not to thrilled about it myself". we became friends. he tells me that he has a 66 charger...but it hasnt run since he got it....this has been 10 years now. new rebuilt 383 and NEVER BEEN TURNED OVER OR STARTED IN 10 YEARS.

My immediate thought was ..." oh great another gearhead with a rust bucket charger thinkin he got something here ".....but thats not the case. we went to see his charger and....ITS CLEANNNNNNNNNNN..... no rust,,,,dents,,,,putty,,,,NUTHIN. however the dash is torn out but all the parts are there.......which brings me to half an hour ago.

he tells me that he wants the car to run and gets excited about THINKING about it running and driving.....one problem tho...... he is a nice guy but just cant seem to stay out of the BARS. ( something i just last year gave up ...DRINKING !)

NOW I KNOW DAMN WELL THAT THAT 66 CHARGER IS NEVER GOING TO RUN AS LONG AS IT IS IN HIS GARAGE......so....i start thinking as im on the phone with him...........

he mentions that his Norton bike is not running well, and how his wife and him used to love to ride.....i started thinking...." i have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 that i really dont ride anymore"...... now the gears are turning.......

heres the dilemma..... i also would love to see that charger run....but it wont as long as he has it.....he loves to ride with his wife and has no bike that can do the job...........would it be taking advantage in considering a trade ....charger for the Honda VTX 1800 ????? or would you consider that....SAVING THE CHARGER ?

the car needs a good bit of work.....but i have the place,,,the skill,,,,the money,,,,and the KNOW HOW to get it back on the road.....he wont fix the car if he is in a bar 4 hours after work everyday . i would like your thoughts on this..

thanx THE DOG!:headbang:

Personally. If your honest with us. Just be honest with him and see how it goes. Tell him these cars take tons of money to restore and does he really think he will restore it. Tell him that you would. Let him think about it and tell him what you got to offer with your bike. As long as your fair. Thats all he can ask. On the other hand you may offend him by him saying a bike for a car ( ARE YOU CRAZY ). Just tread lightly on the subject. Good luck either way.

wowwwwwwww...FAST RESPONSES !

i am a very honest person...and i even have a conscience..( some of you would think differently im sure)...but i dont want to see this car just sitting there....doing nothing....because thats how it has been for the past 10 years...and i dont want to see it end up on " CARS IN BARNS ". i really dont think he would be offended....but the "deviate" part is....im planting seeds for him to think about....but all he talks about is how he would love to hear that car run.

i keep telling him..." well...if you want to hear it run...YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO ".... meaning keeping his *** out of the bars and spend the money on the car. he is a pipe dreamer i think....and i think he also wants me to do all the work on it,,,,,which i offered my help ...but told him i wont do it all....il will help him. well since our meeting on the road , he has done NOTHING, but talks about it all the time... and this is why im asking you guys for opinions.

Whats your bike worth and what kind of Norton are we talkin, old or newer?

i think my bike is worth about 5 G's...and i dont want his norton...or any bike....because i dont ride anymore....thats why i was thinking "trade"

now that would put me with 3 Mopars....70 RR...66 Belvy II...and this 66 Charger.... i guess i also have a few things to think about ...." DO I REALLY NEED ANOTHER CAR ?"

Is his wife hot? Offer him the bike for the Charger and his wife.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOO. leave it to you Rat Rod.....hahahahahah funny stuff....but seriously folks.....no she aint hott....and the LAST thing i need is a woman....THEN I WOULD HAVE NOOOOOOOO CARS!:headbang:

( can i get a whoa bundy)

Offer up the bike for the charger, worst thing that can happen is he says no.Wont know till you ask.

Well. That's a sticky situation but is offer it and if you decide you don't need 3 cars you can sell one to one of the other guys here I don't need 3 super bees but have them and I also don't need 2 73 ses but have them also the trade at hand though is the bike for the car yea seams light on your side so offer to help fix the Norton up with givein him your car to make yourself feal better about it sometimes its the little gestures you know that I'm like you I look for deals I find them then remember its in the details why is it sitting why can't it get done but be honest tell him he could go to shows in it with you and so on he might apriciate that gesture and he might find new love for it and realize life is better sober as others of us have but just be honest and true to yourself

If the Charger makes you happy and the bike makes him happy then it's probably a fair deal.

.........That man's drinking all my beer!!!!!!!! Bawwwwwhhhh!!!:frustrated:

Sounds like a thought out decent swap working out from both sides.

I have a personal belief: The definition of a good deal is when both parties come away happy. In cases like this, value is in the eyes of the seller and buyer and nobody else.
If this allows both of you to get what you want, where is the problem?
Do it, DO it.

If you really want this i would make the offer, leave it to him and you just sit back and let him make the decision. You have nothing to loose, and he wouldn't either.. If he accepts the deal then both happy, and you have some work and fun ahead of you.

Sounds to me as if he is more or less wanting you to fix it up for him. I have a Friend like that, his 68 A-body barracuda which has been sitting for 15 years now, I even offered up my 383 for him to use it the car and he still has not moved. Beer, whiskey and weed are more important.

If he is stupid enough to trade you straight across for a bike then he did not deserve that charger anyway. Go get it I say. Yes I am brutal!

Sweeten the pot a little and offer the bike and a case of beer if he helps load the Charger on the trailer!

i dont see where a bike worth about $5 k is out of line trading for that car.he would ride the bike and you dont even know if the car truely runs.a running vehicle is always worth alot more to someone like he sounds to be.have you shown him your bike, any interest?just be slow on the offer, dont rush it.easy way to loose a potential freind is by being pushy.good luck hope to here about a good resolution.

Yup, he knows what he needs to do to see it running.......and you might mention that he will see it running and soon if the car was yours. You might even offer to let him drive it once it's running if you can trust him driving it. Also offer to him that he would be first in line if you decided to sell it later on.
