Can anyone tell me what the gear ratio is in a stock 8 1/4 in rear end?
Also will a stock 1960 3 speed automatic bolt up to an after market 318 without an adaptor plate?

Thanks sarah

the rear could have come with numerous different gear ratios so without checking what you have their no definite way to tell what gears are in it. and there is no such animal as an aftermarket 318.

If the rear hasn't been tampered with, there should be a small metal tag under one of the cover nuts that has the ratio stamped on it.

What kind of 318 are you talking about?

Why a 318 at all? Why not just put in a 360? Same amount of work for more cubes. NO the 60 tranny wont bolt up to an LA motor. Been there, done that.

Also, what year is the Belvedere? Did it come with a slant six? If it came with an eight it SHOULD have an 8 3/4 and if it came with a small block it would have a 2.73 or 2.75 in it; only big blocks had optional gear ratios.

The '66 Belvy I had with the 8 3/4 were 2.75 gears
