Has anyone had a bench seat and a factory auto floor shifter fitted? did the shifter clear the seat?
69 satellite.
Mine was bench seat to begin with and column change. changed to bucket seats and floor change when replacing most of the metal , thinking to change back.
Ideas, would build a custom console.

Would help to know what year and model car you are working on.

Can't see it working well unless it was up high. Or don't use 1st and 2nd

I think it would work ok. Look at some pictures. The bench front edge would be the same as the buckets. I visualize it clearing. How tall are you? Further back the seat is the better.

Here is another picture. I think you could easily modify the console and top plate along with boxing in the open end. You would have to make a attachment mount and creatively drill the top plate to mount to the console. Here is another picture. I see plenty of clearance.

A pic of a bench would really help though. Good chance they're not apples/ apples

Yes it looks likes it should work. Just wondering if anyone had actually done it

I agree but overall the locations should be very close. He could set his seat and have someone with a console automatic measure from the dash to the knob in park and also in reverse. Another option would be to take the shift rod out and carefully take a bit of the bend out.
