I'm setting up a budget to replace my rusty old exhaust system...before I pass out from the CO2 fumes. (I could almost stick my hand through the holes in the bottom of my mufflers.)

So I have a few questions for you guys based on installing a 3" exhaust system with ceramic headers / cut outs / on a 1969 Roadrunner with a 440.

What headers are running?
How do you like them?
Where did you get them?
How much were they? (approximately.)

I have TTI polished ceramic coated with thermal barrier headers and 3" x pipe exhaust on my 1969 Coronet R/T (440 cid) and they are flawless. I got mine from Chicago Connection http://chicagoconnection.us/ and I can not remember the price. Maybe $1,500.00 for the headers and full exhaust with Dynomax muffflers. I am not sure if I have 1-7/8" or 2" diameter headers to a 3" collector...time for a ride to check.

If you plan on buying only one set of headers for the life of the car, you can't go wrong with TTI headers. I have two sets and I love them.

Also got my full length 3" TTI setup (2" headers) from Chicago Connection. Thankfully I live close to the owner so we met for the parts exchange and I saved the shipping charge. I hated the Dynomax mufflers, sound sucked, and opted for Flowmaster mufflers after the install.

Got the 3" QTP electric cutouts and 3" Y pipe from an Ebay seller, actually think it was QTP on Ebay.

2 1/4 coated TTI's. Awesome quality and fit perfectly. It's the only way to go unless you fabricate your own in SS. I bought mine from Tim at FHO - about $1350.00 or so with O2 bungs welded onto the collectors.

I have 2 sets for 2 different cars...

I bought them both from Bob Mazolinni Racing, So California

I bought all my TTi exhaust through Chicago Connection also. They had the best pricing and are great people to do business with.

Did you need the 02 bungs because you were running fuel injection?

Bought my 2" TTI headers from Mancini for $691 in the nickel coating which is the way they come the cheapest. Ron

What finish are you guys using?

Nickle Chrome
Ceramic Coated
Polished Ceramic with Thermal barrier?

Sounds like it's $179 difference per side on the Chrome and the full meal deal.

I got mine from Mancini Racing, although I am not sure the price was discounted at all. I got the ceramic coated (in and out) with O2 bungs on mine (I am installing fuel injection on my car). Cost was basically $1000 with shipping. They fit PERFECT.

Here is my $0.02. TTI is the ONLY company that I am aware of that makes different headers for B vs. RB blocks. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT. In other cases, guys with B blocks (like me with my 383) have to settle for 440 headers and the fit is not quite right. They hang lower, may have slight fitment issues. etc.

So if you are buying headers for a B block the TTI is the ONLY way to go, in my opinion. If you are buying for a RB block, then there are several other options for good fitting headers.

Ceramic, polished, TTI's. $1000. to the door IIRC. Bought direct, don't do that. Use a vendor who supports FBBO or recommended as above. I carry a laser temp gun. Underhood temps are ALWAYS 100 degrees cooler than any else. TTI's coated do the job.

These are the nickle coated which is the cheapest price as this is the way they come without any other treatment. I paid $691 for them in 2011 and I bought them from Mancini. They are holding up good but are showing a tad of blueing in a few spots now. Nothing much as its just a little bit. This is what they looked like about a month or two after the eng had been running. Basically they just kinda look chromed. Ron

This pic was taken a few weeks ago so they have been on the car over 3 years as it was June 2011 when I fired this eng up and you can see the blueing some and they do look to have dulled a little. The Coating on them would have put the price around $1000. so I went with just the nickle coated. They are ok for me but if you want them to stay looking as good as new you will want to pay the extra for the ceramic coating. But I have no complaints as I know I did not pay for the good coating. I really like the headers though as they fit great and have been no problems at all. Ron

I like the chrome actually - the thing I hate about the coated headers is that no matter how much you try you always end up sratching them then you do the installation.

Actually I kind of like the bluing effect, have you had any under hood temperature issues having gone with the nickel coating rather than the ceramic?

No I have not had any underhood temp problems at all. The car runs between 180 and 190 almost all the time in outside temps from 60 degrees to almost 100 degrees. Ron
