Best single plane intake B series?

Don"t forget the old tm6. Will you be running a hood scoop? The tm6 and the torker are about the only two that will fit under a stock hood.

I have hemi scoop on mine so clearance isn't an issue

You are correct, the Torker is an outdated design. The Edelbrock Victor intake is better than the Torker for making power but the Trick Flow intake is even better than the Victor. No reason to run the old designs unless you're flat broke and have to use a swap meet intake.

If you are shooting for 600 hp with the 240 heads then you'll want to run the batwing gasket holders to get the port alignment perfect. The standard tin pan gasket won't have the port locations perfectly correct for the 240 heads which will cost you some power.

thanks Andy. awesome that we have people on this forum like you with that kind of expertise! super cool that you write for Hot Rod! any brand in particular that you like for these batwing gasket holders? I was leaning towards the trick flow in the first place for an intake simply because of the heads and yes ill be doing some port matching.

unless your building a high reving engine go with the dual plane.

thanks for sharing, those are some sweet numbers! 575hp! this will be a street car but I have hesitation in saying that because I really care about power. my engine builder really wants a single plane but we will have a chat about what is best for my application. I cant see myself going above 6000rpm realistically but maybe one day ill take it to the track just for fun. :)

What cam are you going to run? Is this a street/strip strip or street only car? If you go to my build "trick flows on the 440"you can find some flow # comparison if you'd like. I went with the 6bbl, you'd be surprised at the results.

cam will be some custom grind solid flat tappet

What gaskets are you using on your batwings? Fel pro or Hughes with the silicone seal?

Doesn’t the MP big block engines book have intake mods for this intake?
To rebalance it out....

You have a 470 low-deck with standard port heads, no reason not to choose AndyF's recommendation on the Trick Flow intake to match your combination.

I run the 'holy grail' M1-4500 on my 470, just because I wanted to keep it Mopar. Can't recommend because they're impossible to find on the used market.

you already have a manifold- get it dialed in first and get a baseline before spending $$$
lots of good tips in this thread

I second the old TM6! I run a TM7 on my 440 with great results. The TM6 is a nice piece for the money, and it should be fairly easy to snag a nice one.

My old 451 ran the Mopar M1 4150 carb with a 1" spacer between carb and intake and it worked for me, that was early 1990's.
I'd use the TrickFlow intake now.

If buying new go with the trickflow. The dualplane will Work but it won’t have nearly as good distribution as a single plane on the big motor.

I’ve played with both on my 511. Six pack (dual plane) and a TM6. The TM6 has great distribution and doesn’t really give up anything to the dual plane on the 511. Ultimately though I run the six pack for the look. Both setups ET the same.

beautiful engine. really both setups are the same ET? that surprises me but cool to know.

I got TF240 from 440 source and let me tell you that I got better than 1st class service from Kim and Brandon. Buy from them. They helped throughout the purchase. I had a set of 440 source and they were great. I then got a set of TF to put onto my 451 and they were better performing heads but at the same time more than double the price when you factored in the pushrods, bolts , header mods needed. 451 pump gas 10.75 comp eddy perf RPM intake and a comp XL285 cam. Just past 600hp and 625TQ very nice street motor. I could imagine if I did a 470 or even a 512. It would be killer on the street and track. Good luck on your purchase. Stay with dual plane on the street.

I always had the impression that the Torker was an old outdated design but that’s good to know. I’ll run it by my engine builder. I was hoping to use my eddy perf rpm but the he says 600hp would be hard with a dual plane so now I’m shopping around.
I made 651hp 707tq with a performer RPM on a 400/512 on pump gas.

Easy to make 600+ on a stroker with the RPM dual plane.
