so my charger cam with a set of 19mm locking lugnuts. I dont have the key to it and it looks like whoever attempted to remove the wheels before me didint either. Any tips or tricks from the wise men at the beer cooler? I just have the front bearings to do and Ill be good to drive it around town.

Use a socket that is slightly smaller the lug nut (preferably an old one) smack it on with a hammer and crank it off. Use a drift or even a screw driver to remove the nut from the socket and do the next one.

They make sockets that are used specifically on stripped lug nuts. I have a set made by MAC and they work awesome on locking lugs.

The old socket trick will work if the locking nut isn't so that that King Kong has a hard time but the ones made for that type of work usually do better.

Get a 12pt socket 1 thats sits just bigger than the lug hammer it over the lug the 12 pt should bite into the lug and come off.

can you show a pick if the 12 point socket trick dont work?several ways to do it,even on stubborn lug nuts.depends on wheel and lock design.

Craftsman make a socket set for removing rounded off bolts, sometimes you get luck and they will bite on the locks. I have welded a nut to the end of the lug and used an impact on the godzilla gorilla tight ones with success. Be very careful on aluminuim wheels though.

Take it to a muffler and brakes shop. They do this all the time with stripped hex lug nuts. They will probably just weld a hex nut on the end of the lug nut and use an air impact to remove the thing. Cost should be in the $10-20 range - or maybe even free is the mech is into cool old Mopars.

Spray with freon. Hit with hammer! LOL! But really, Is this a capped or open lug nut? My solution, abrade the finish of the old one and mig-weld a new lug-nut to it.

X2, there are so many different types it's hard to say without seeing what your dealing with.

Hammer a length of aluminum tubing over the locking lug nut and use a large adjustable wrench to turn it. I have had the best luck with square tubing.

We've done several methods mentioned @ the shop depending on the type of lock nut. Certain methods work better with certain types of wheels....

Since youre doing the bearings pull the hub nut and rotor/drum and grind off the back ot the stud and punch it thru. No risk of damage to your rim. If disc pull the caliper bolts too

Unless the guy is UNUSUALLY conscientious, the most likely outcome is welding slag on your rim and tire...BOOM. I've used the socket-hammered-over-the-lock method before and it works reasonably well. One of those rusty, got-it-fer-free MasterMechanic sockets rolling around loose in the bottom of yer "junkyard" toolbox outta do it.

The right tool works. Or welding if you tape off the wheel and ground the welder off to the particular lug. You don't want to put current through the wheel bearings
