Big block 440 suddenly lost 30 PSI oil pressure.

2nd update, first of all thanks for all the comments. When I called the machine shop to report the failure, he did admit that the #5 cam bearing is hard to line up on a Mopar to keep the oil holes indexed and also said that if the bearing is not perfectly true, the cam can walk it out. Also said that is the block is damaged, they could line bore and install a bushing. Have not discussed but sounds line they are going to help me with the repair. Just a lot of extra labor I was not looking forward too but what the heck, old retired guys work cheap. I did pull the engine and disassembled down to the short block before delivering back to the machine shop. I am just anxious to get my Mop back on the street. So much fun to drive with a big block that puts out 643 ft/lbs of torque!

Just seen video on YouTube about a service tech working on a rig engine that had low oil pressure. The guy cut open the oil filter too find alot of metal pieces that shouldn't be there. Wound up being spun main bearing that not only damaged the crank but also the block.

All unmanned engines should be equipped with low oil pressure switches. May not have saved a rebuild but would not have destroyed it.
