3 originals here and you are Absolutely correct.The air cleaner bases are decent but the lids have a bunch of casting flaws too.
There's a big "box" of excess metal that surrounds the MP logo, tall on some and uneven on others.
Though the lettering overall is cleaner and sharper, chipped fins are normal.
The most noticeable defect to me -- being a woman -- is that the ends of the fins are not uniform in the least and look like ....... well, there's no delicate or ladylike way to say it ...... little dicks.

I always have to round them off (they lean the other way past the center) with my riffler files.
If Dow 7 is what I think, a kind of old magnesium look, I have one that might fit the bill.
