Big tire/wheels under rear 62 Savoy/Fury wagon ?

Whats the biggest (with in reason) tire/rim combo that would fit under the rear of a 62 Savoy/Fury wagon...up front also ? Thanks
Probably going to use 17-18 inch rims.

I've got a 10 1/2" slick with a 12" plus section width, on a 15x8 1/2 wheel with 4 7/8 bs, but it needs a 3/8 spacer to fit. I've got a 10" slick in a 16x8 1/2 rim that fits better, no spacer needed. Both of those are slightly larger than a 275-60x15 street tire. Rim diameter is immaterial, just look for something around 28" tall, with 12" or less section width on the rims you want. I also have a set of 255-70x15 that barely fit, because of too little backspace.
4 1/2 backspace seems to work best on an 8 1/2 rim, adjust for wider or narrower rim.
My Savoy is a 62 coupe. If I remember right, a wagon has a different shape to the wheel openings, you may be able to get more under the wagon.

This one,275/60 15 rear,225/70 15 front,1/2",15x7 wheel front,15x8 wheel rear, clearance to spring 1/2",to top of wheel opening 1",Dana 60 rear.

Think there would be any problems with those sizes, if the car were lowered say 2" ?

My car couldn't use ANY of those, lowered another two inches. With a 62 wagon, you have a different fender opening shape, but lowered two inches will bring the fender lip into play. Having the right backspace for your application is CRUCIAL! To get a lot of tire under the fender the wheel HAS to be in the right place. If you have some relatively large wheels that fit , you can take measurements to see where the backspace needs to be, on YOUR car.
On mine, i have three wheels that i use , two with 4 7/8 bs, both 8 1/2, and an 8" with 4"bs. One set of 4 7/8 needs a 3/8 spacer, because of the section width of the tire, the smaller tire on a wheel with the same backspace fits fine without. The eight inch wheel has a tire that is at least two sizes smaller, simply because the wrong bs moves the tire closer to the fender (the larger the backspace number, the closer to the spring, smaller bs number , closer to the fender)
My big tires, the ones on the centerlines, have about a finger between the fender and the tire, and about the same to the spring. Lowering the body even an inch, the fender would be sitting on the tire. Frankly, the lower you go, the less tire that will fit.

On my '62 Savoy Suburban, I went with 225/70R/15 up front and 275/60R/15 in the rear, all on 15x7" steel wheels.

I know this is my old post back from the dead. But you said the largest front tire you've used was a 235/75/15 (28.9" dia )How worried were you about the tire grabbing the lower corner of the fender ? I was thinking of going with 235/60/17 (28.1" dia) Thoughts on a street driven cruiser wagon with using 235/60/17 ?

I'm gonna be a bit cautious with them till i know they clear, and at the moment, it is primarily strip use. I have had 235-70x15 on 15x6 steelies that fit fine, except i found they rubbed a header tube at full lock. If you dont have a header tube exiting in your wheelwell you should be fine. A 235-60 is even shorter.
(Your comment about the front edge, made me go look. It looks like Someone, at some point, shaved the front valence down. I never noticed before, and ive owned this car since the early 90s!)
