While working on my GTX with motor removed for rebuild I noticed that the ground wire from the battery to the body was only connected with a few strands of wire. I decided to put a new end on it when I came across this issue. The bolt where the ground connects to the body is connected to one of those nuts that is stamped into the core support.

I noticed there was paint where the ground connection is that needed to be removed and after further investigation I see when you screw the bolt in all the way the nut is loose in the core support. No matter how tight you make the bolt the nut is still loose. This as we all know is an issue. I'm thinking about just drilling a new hole to mount the ground, unless this is not the correct location for the original ground. If there is someone with a 70 GTX or RR that can show me a picture where it is supposed to really be it would be much appreciated. This car has been wrecked at some time and things are not all installed as original or correct.

Here is the nut from the front side where you can see it is just stamped into the core support.

It is the correct spot on a '70, right in front of the battery tray. Note how the factory didn't bother removing the paint, as the bolt head and threads make the ground!

If you aren't planning to paint any of that, clean a spot on the bottom edge with a wire brush and hit it quick with a MIG welder to join nut and rad support. Will be hidden by the wire ends..

In the meantime if you are worried about losing the ground you can just put a serrated nut on the backside with a larger washer for now....

I was thinking about that. Just didn't want to burn any of the paint that's left off. As you see it's not in the best shape paint wise, but I think that's what I'll do.

Mine broke off “the Roach” and I had my body man weld it back on.
