Just bought this car. It needs a new carb , the old one leaks. It came with - new points , wires, plugs. I just put a new vac advance on it. It is running good at idel but put it in gear and it boggs real bad. Any ideas for me out there ?????

Please help

hi and welcome to the site drop over to the welcome wagon post a intro

Check the timing curve, particularly the mech advance to see if it's frozen. Is vacuum advance connected to manifold or ported source? If manifold, disconnect and plug port on carb then connect to ported port. Set dwell first to 45 degrees then timing.

If it needs a new carb, kind of difficult to work around that. Might be your whole problem.

Be sure to check the carb base gasket, too. If no good...big time air leak.

What Meep-Meep said. Slants are known for the mechanical advance to freeze.Intake/exhaust gasket actually wear out from expansion/contraction thru the years.Carbs are noted for most of the problems. Top 3 places to start.
