Was hoping to wrap this car up today (Chevelle SS), but, 'effing Bondo, man, this stuff is 3/16+ thick on the ENTIRE roof. It takes 3 times as long to wear it down. Here's some pics, not MOPAR ****, but, Muscle Car ****!

This is where I got suspicious that there was Bondo on the entire roof, I ran a blast bead down the middle...

I took this pic, sent to the owner so he can see what I'm running into, and that this is eating up valuable time...

This is where I stopped, and started to look for my electric scraper (wonderful tool)!

well , lol , was someone going for the Barrett/Jackson look ? I know some bondo the entire car for a smoother look , but ca,,,,mon ,,,,,! That's just crazy . Btw , I'd charge more for the extra efforts .

God that probably took a lot of work to get all that bondo on there.

That's why when they sign the contract, it states if Bondo is encountered, I reserve the right to increase prices as needed; we're at an hour plus extra right now; 150 bucks an hour!

Sounds fair . That's a lot of bondo ! Hope ya don't run into anymore ! GOOD GOD ! :black_eye:

maybe it had a vinyl top and somebody took it off but didn't want to deal with the glue so they bondo'd over it.

Maybe the roof got dented because of bad mediablasting. The heat makes the roof-metal wrinckle like a paper...

LOL..No Doubt! Would of made a hell of bunch more sense jut to replace the roof if it really needed it. Probably would have taken less time than try to block a whole roof out!..........Jackassery!

Don't know, don't know. There is lots of waves and stuff under the bondo; how that happened, I have no idea. Also, don't know if it was media blasted earlier than I. From the looks of it; there's deep swirl marks in the metal from an orbital sander/grinder. But, I really don't care; it's not my restoration, and which way he goes is his lane, I'm just the Media Blaster.

Wow! that's just too much!

I have the "bad roof curse" myself, which means every damn project I've ever drug home has had a rough roof. In my experience it's usually been from some a-hole walking on the roof.

Field cars or pretty much anything that has been sitting where kids exist can really get the top metal beat up from them jumping & climbing on them.

I feel so sorry for the body man that takes this one on, wonder if it has a trunk lid & hood to match the roof?

Just got done reading the statement about someone running all over the hood , and I couldn't agree more . Also see bigger dogs do that to a car's roof too .

This is most likely what happened; kids walking on it, it's all a mess up close under the Bondo which now is gone! The stuff I uncover when blasting; amazing! qtr repairs that are doo doo, lathered under Bondo, the owner is going to be shocked when he comes over to see this car.

That's rough.

Nothing worse than large top surface dents for the body man either. roofs, hoods, trunk lids. They are like drum skins, simply maddening. So little support they just flex and oil can while you are trying to block them out.

Last one I did was my daughter's 65 mustang coupe just this spring. I knew it had dents in the roof when I bought it, luckily they were all close to the perimiter of the roof skin where there is a bit of strength to work with so I was able to raise them as much as I dared without making any high spots and then skim coat & block sand. The roof cam out great but it's much harder if the whole roof is riddled with dents, especially in the middle.

my curse that follows me through life, I swear. The dreaded roof dents!

Bumped & filled it still looks terrible even though it's less than 1/8" in the heaviest spots.

all better now though.
