So, I bought this car without a personal inspection. Quite a risky move. However, I am pretty lucky with its overall condition. I’ve had the brakes redone and much of the motor parts excluding the major pieces.
The car was born in LA and was driven for most of its life in Washington and Oregon. Maybe that is why the body is in such good shape. Some of the projects I’m focusing on now are:
replace the Headliner. I’ve ordered the material.
find a good upholsterer for the headliner and repairing the drivers front seat. It has a couple of small tears. Otherwise the seats are in near perfect shape, I clouding the rear facing back seat.
Figure out what engine is in the car. My mechanic thinks it’s a 383 or 413. I said the largest engine the wagon comes with is a 361. Anyway I can’t see the S number on the engine block so I’m flummoxed. I did order a build sheet from Chrysler. That will tell me what it should be.
Eventually replace the exhaust pipes and manifold. Not a priority right now.
I do have a few banged up chrome trim pieces to replace.
Everything works except the radio and clock. A few fun things I’ve done to make it better:
Bought a console for the hump with 2 cupholders. They hold my Alexa tube speaker and my iPhone for music, etc.
added a Type S wireless solar backup camera with I view on my iPhone.
Added a panoramic rear view mirror overlay so I can see everything behind me.
Replaced all 5 tires.
I’ve mentioned the body is in great shape. That said, it seems to of had a clear coat put over the original paint. It could be an issue if I decide to go nuts on the restoration.
I bought this to be an everyday driver. If I keep it long term, I’ll turn it electric and replace the front seats with buckets and pull the huge front speaker for a large screen as my info center.
lastly, I’m excited to have found this site and plan to use it a lot.
