bought another 72 roadrunner project car

^ Bruz, there's no such thing as a "rusted out POS" if we're talking about Mopars.

Rusted out, sure. POS? Never. :eusa_snooty:

I fell under the I'm going to fix it up someday, but only because I got sick during a restoration (stroke age 29) and one of my drives to get better and to get back to my life was seeing the Coronet R/T in the garage for nine years. My dad would look at it (Who is also sick and legally blind) and say we can fix I know we can.

Well I'm back or back as good as I'm going to ever be and I still can not do a big project or maybe even a project at all. I sold my R/T to someone I knew and do know is going to restore it and restore it right.

I can understand an attachment to a car and this is one of those and it is one that will make him get the car done over time and I would say be a car he will never sell. My R/T the only attachment I had to it was it was something my dad and I worked on and it was a one of one. I look back on it and it is ok I sold it because I still have my dad and I have memories of the car and us working on and on the hunt of old MOPARs.

Now I'm on the hunt again but as a guy looking for a driver that may need a few things here and there. I want something I can mod. I also want the next one to be something my dad, mom and I alll enjoy riding in. I don't care if its a car with thousands and it will also be one if I so choose to do so and drive it each day as my daily driver I will do so no matter how rare it is.

The 72 Road Runner is a big project and it is one that will take a long time to do, many of hours and lots of money and I get where you are coming from because right now you can buy cars cheaper then you can restore them, but then again if you have an attachment to it and knowing the car for years and your whole life you can't buy that from another car.

Enjoy this car and restore it if you can and if all it ever is, is a project then that is ok its still your car! Enjoy it.

When I was shopping around for my road runner, I went to look at a 73 that sitting in a back yard , The car was 100% disassembled and there were parts laying on the ground, in the trunk, under the roof, and in tattered boxes. The qps were rotted through and there was no telling what the original paint was because everything was covered with rust. The owner had this crazy notion that he was going to do a 100% resto and decided to start it by unbolting everything that could be removed without documenting where anything came from or where it went to. Asking price: $3,000, but he might take $2,750. :disgust:

Now, I could have paid the guy his $2,750 and had a wrecker and a container truck come down and lug all that crap back to my house. Then I could spend years refinishing and assembling what pieces I had, and time and money looking for all the parts that were either FUBAR or were outright gone (despite the claims from the owner that the car was 100% complete). And hopefully, two or three years and $10,000 or so later, I would have a car. Or... I could find a nice daily driver for $2,000 and spend $4,000 and six months fixing it up.

So yes... even Mopars can be rusted out POS's, just like that 73 was.

The car was one of the dearly departed. :angel11:

The owner was a POS for not giving it a proper burial.

yeah, you're nuts. but aren't most car guys? I drug this home a few years ago. traded a buddy a 383/727 that another buddy had given me. best part of this car was the new 1/4 skins. most everything else was missing, rusted,or just pain junk.I had a good 440/4 speed, did a ot of horse trading, ebay ,moparts searching. lots of walking at The Nats. Took me five years, but I turned it into this. had a blast with the car. put a smile on my face everytime I drove it, because it went from a pile to a driving car, because of me! lost it n a garage fire. It is the one car I'd like to have back.
glad you saved yours!

Being at least 1/2 nuts helps when your a car guy, or gal.. It helps us explain much better why we do the things we do when everyone around you says your nuts and it cant be done! Makes the transition into a nice ride smoother.. :)

First off, to keep this thread on topic. To the OP; Congrats on your pick up. I hope it all works out for you.

To everyone else, this isn't the place to discuss whether we're smart or dumb in buying a project. It is all personal. We all have our reasons why we bought or did not buy a particular vehicle.
