Bought my first B body this weekend. :) a "rare" "SS" monaco..

to MARPAR

The bumper sticker on the front is actually a department of defense "pass" of some kind.
the rear bumper stickers are something about a "smokers tax" and being in opposition of it....

now please don't tell me the DOD never made parking pass stickers...or that a smokers tax is something i found on the internet and made up .lol
 
a blanket statement is something with the word "always" or "never" in it...that was in response to another post claiming chrysler had never used the SS designation on a vehicle, which may be true for exterior badges, but doesn't mean it wasn't a trim package. sorry for the confusion.
 
That front bumper sticker is a military base access sticker. It was issued to personnel who required base access and had the proper insurance. The color of the central part of the sticker indicated if you were active duty (officer or enlisted), government civilian, vendor,or a contractor. The yellow tabs are the expiration date. 8-2 would indicate Aug of 1992 or 2002. My guess is 2002 as the tabs in '92 were smaller, at least where I worked.

Bumper sticker issue:
"WE" used to display these stickers on either the front drivers side bumper, at the base of the windshield near "pillar" on drivers side or the top of the windshield above the rear view mirror (outside) until 9/11
-After 9/11 Intel found out that "WE" (Military members, DOD etc were (are) targets of Terrorists (or we could be so easily identified as such simply by the D.O.D stickers.

NOTE: the DOD stickers simply provided the gate guards a "quick-look" indicator that you were DOD and your vehicle was or has (had) current base registration.

After 9/11 ALL Military bases were "closed to the public" and a much stricter inspection was enacted.
This resulted in a more intense scrutiny at the gate.
At first, immediately after 9/11 it became 2 formal forms of ID
The Civilian Access card and a Military card or drivers license.
And the gate guards take the cards from you, scan them and then hand them back.

Now, the US military installations and DOD facilities have "moved away" from the Decal or base sticker pass.
 
The SS means the body style l will use this for a example a RR starts off as RM23 or RM21 I've had a couple cordobas that started as SS in the vin .
 
A very unique car. I have to say I Don't remember seeing that model. Quite a find! 318 four Barrel with the HD 727 (D34) is rare.

Sorry but incorrect. WL is the body code on my vin. the SS is not part of the vin, its a trim level which was an option set over the base model. I posted a picture of the window sticker, and a link to a website confirming the SS trim. Not sure what else i can post. I never said my vin had an SS in it. Just the build sheet and window sticker. SS appears to be Special/sport. tis on the original title, original window sticker, original paperwork.

Thanks! Unfortunately mine is just a 2bbl. And I assume a 904.

Fair enough on the agree to disagree, and thanks. I don't think the lack of exterior badging makes it NOT an SS, especially when it's on the collector guide and such as a model. But hey, to each his own. Have a good day as well

I will say regardless of trim level, badging etc, you got a cool, uncommon car for a real good price. Not very often you can "drive" away in an antique for under $2000. I don't think I would even bother to change out the seats. Heck the less $ you have into it, equals more smiles per gallon!
 
Sorry about that! I have been waiting a damn month for my new glasses! I was reading the second sheet that showed the Monaco with the California four barrel option. Strange, though the Mopar books show the 727 as standard. But one can't deny the D34 code.They were solid cars in any event.

NP. i just assume it has a 904. i havent been under it yet other than to look at how solid it was. i know it has the 8.25. maybe it will surprise me with a 727...but it has thus far only surprised me with the radio dying...and a slow draw on the battery lol
 
Just open the hood, if there is a big bulge on the passenger side of the transmission where the filler tube is, then you got it. The code book does say D34 is 904.
