I just upgraded my 69 Satellite to front disc brakes, also replaced master cylinder and power booster. What fluid would you recommend to refill the clean system, let me know your thoughts. thanks.

i use dot 5. won't harm the paint or absorb water.

I agree. I've been using the silicone based stuff for over 25 years. Never a failure. Even have it in my 150 mpg drag car, no issue. Doesn't eat paint.

I am with you guys, but knowledgeable people will swear up and down you should not use DOT 5 . I have used it for 10 years with no problem---nothing but good. I wonder if the problems that do come up is with mechanics error?? Don't use DOT 5 in any brake system that had been used with other brake fluids. Use only with all new brake componets. ................................MO

I went with dot 5 over ten years ago with no problems.

What ever you do, never go with Dot 1.

The old timers had issues with brake hoses... Replace them and flush a gallon of fluid through the system a quart per wheel to get particles out and any air

i've been using dot 5 for close to 25yrs. dot5 will not mix with any of the other fluids, so don't try it. the first time i used it was with a system that had dot 3 in it. i took the wheel cylinders/master cylinder apart and cleaned the dot 3 out and used spray brake clean to clean out the lines. never an issue, stays clean.

I just did some brake work on my '66 Coronet, rebuilt all the wheel cylinders and installed 11" brakes on the rear. I flushed the system with alcohol and installed DOT 5. I also used it for years on my '69 Dart with front disc brakes. I'm surprised its use is not promoted more on GYC, along with Evans coolant. Both are perfect for collector cars.

synthetic brade fluid ; flush, flush and flush the entire system. You will be surprised at the amount of crap and rust that comes out.
