Brake/ master cylinder question.. (Yes, another one)

This is the nut shell on the last question... if the car originally had power brakes a manual system will need many parts to go to manual including a pedal,brackets to hang the pedal, linkages a backing plate..... manual to power and back to manual is a big difference between all the combos.... if you suspect it wasn't done right to begin with... you are in for some serious fabrication... you may get lucky.... look under the dash and see if it has a multiplier set up where one rod from the pedal attaches to an arm that pushes another rod that goes into the back of the booster... that's the power set up.... manual has one rod. Also has a different plate between the booster and fire wall it attaches to..... on my car I have a power drum car... going to a SSBC KIT power system made for converting manual to power I had to drill and make my own rod with a combo of parts.... the easiest way is to verify if it was originally a power car or if you have a manual car and start from their... depending on which pedal to firewall.assembly you have will determine how easy it will be to go to manual.... or like above to a replacement pirate Jack booster.... either way you're master cylinder is junk but not all masters fit depending on all the for mentioned possibilities.... someone could have really botched it up under there it done it right take some pictures and post it and I will look for the thread and help point you where you need to go before you buy anything know what you have... I pulled my steering column and front seat to start with so I could see and operate once I new what mess I had under there...
 
Thanks Sleepar! I will get some pics tomorrow. I do suspect that it was an original power car without looking due to the fact I have an old booster and master cylinder that came with the car..

I'm am fine sticking with power brakes, but the car had an external vacuum pump hooked to the booster by po, but brakes didn't work any better than do now without it. It wasn't wired very good and looked like poo! I just wonder if I stick with power brakes with so little vacuum how are they going to work with same booster and new master?

The brakes won't if the masters shot.... put the vac pump back on but wire it nice... if the master leaks it is well gone.... a new booster ( for good measure) and new cylinder are all you probably need... pull the booster and if there is a bunch of holes in the fire wall ... you will know.... like above pirate Jack...
 
Ok here is what I came up with overnight.. What I currently have is an mp brakes master cylinder combo 1306..here's description:

Convert the manual brakes in your Charger to power brakes using our bolt-in power brake conversion kit with a 8" dual diaphragm brake booster and a 1" bore master cylinder.

The car didn't have manual setup. So I'm pretty sure the pedal is wrong or the linkage is as well.

Here is a pic of the new booster/mc from mp brakes and a not great pic of the bottom of linkage. I'll get a better one later today as car is not in my garage right at moment and I'm headed to it in a few minutes.

I'm guessing that I find the right booster and master setup and I should have a much better brake setup than before even with low vacuum. I can still add the external vacuum if needed.

Is the pedal really different? The only difference I noticed was the master cyl. for the manual drum set up has the rod that gets connected to the brake pedal vs. the power master cyl. version has the bell crank adapter which connects to the brake pedal after it goes through the power brake booster..
 
One attaches higher up on the pedal and the backing plate is different on the fire wall... even with two cars side by side it's hard to tell the difference... the boosters can have a different bolt pattern.... same year same model car. Mix and match a year or model and power drum power disc manual drum and aftermarket stuff and you have a migraine....
 
I just took some Tylenol! Thanks guys. From what I can tell, the pedals are the same but the reinforcement plates are different for converting a power to manual and pushrods are different too.. To heck with it, I'm going for it! Worst case I need more crown royal and a bigger bank account:headbang:
