Hello,
I have a 1979 Chrysler 300 that has a new brake pedal problem:
1. When I step on the brake pedal, the pedal and brakes engage, but when I lift my foot the pedal does not return all the way. When driving, I have to use the back of my left foot to "unstick" the pedal.
2. I tested the brake booster, but it does not seem to be leaking. When I press the brakes with the engine on, and then turn the engine off with my foot still on the pedal, the pedal does not continue to go down and is firm.
3. Just last night when I moved the car, pressed the brakes, unstuck the brakes with my left foot, and turned off the engine, I heard a quiet escape of air coming from under the dash/brake area. This lasted for at least ten seconds while pressure was being released.
My questions include:
Can anyone say from experience that this sounds like the brake booster? What else could it be? Is there something else that can be leaking air and preventing me from having the pedal return all the way? Anyone else experience brake problems like this?
I appreciate any guidance and/or suggestions that you may have. Thank you.
