Brass tag on motor what is it?

Was trying to find some engine numbers on my 383 and there is none, no stamped id numbers, no flat spot for numbers, nothing except this brass tag on the front of the block. Was hoping someone could ID what its for. Engine does have casting numbers on it from 1968 though. Its out of a 69 roadrunner 383 auto car. Thanks

With no vin, Im guessin a warranty replacement.

Either that or just someones rebuild ID tag.

1) Aluminum waterpump and WP housing
2) Washered headbolts with hardened washers
3) Chrome valve covers and dipstick
4) Allen head VC bolts

These all scream a rebuilt engine. Likely, the ID numbers might have been milled off, or as above, a warranty motor wouldn't have a vin on it.

I had one of these on my race motor block. So I peeled it off. when I filled it with water it leaked water out of the rivet holes. I had to find some hard rivets to put back in the holes to repair it. So to make a long story short, leave it there. Who knows may represent some interesting history.

The previous ower did say that way back a race shop had this motor worked, maybe its their identification tag. My mopar engine book shows that factory rplacement engines still had numbers stamped on them that are different than vins, but there just isnt any on the block and dont see signs of exterior machining on the block.

The numbers on the ID pad usually get machined off when the block gets decked. Never seen a tag like that from the factory....just rebuilders.

A service replacement engine would have a blue factory tag on the side of the block. As others have said that is probably a machine shop's tag.
