Bringing back the slant six

My Mom drove a 62 Slant Six Valiant 3 on the tree. I could never figure out what was so loose and rattling under the hood every time she took a city street corner in third gear, for years. :lol:

This is my 62 Lancer Slant Turbo 4 speed tribute project to my Mom.

I've posted this before, but does anyone remember at Carlisle probably 5 - 7 years ago there was a rusty green Dart /6.
It was built by a younger guy (20's), had a home built fuel injection, and was turbocharged. It went on the dyno there, the sound was incredible, and embarrassed a LOT of high dollar cars.
I can't remember what the numbers were, but jaws dropped. Does anyone else remember?
What happened to this guy, or car?
Seemed like it was more than 7? years ago.
The car and the owner also caught my eye. If I remember correctly the car/install was a little rough but completely functionable.
I didn't see it on the dyno. I thought the project showed a lot of spunk and I was impressed.
Have no idea what his or the cars future became.
Maybe he went to work for Mopar and nursed the new Hurricane Six to life? :lol:

Mom drove a 51 Plymouth Cranbrook (whatever a cranbrook is) and she would sometimes lug it but would quickly shift into 2nd gear. I learned how to shift sitting beside her and she always let me even though I wasn't all that good. Heck was 5 years old at the time lol
 
Depends on which version, the Dakota came in different lengths depending on what you ordered. A new Jeep Gladiator is shorter than some of the 2012 Dakotas.
That's the last gen Dakota. Mine is a 98. IMO, they really didn't make any more small trucks after the 90's. Dakota still offered the 4.7, so it still counts, mostly, but that design debut in 2004. Toyota made the Tacoma, but the frames all rotted in the midwest. At least they made one though. GM made the Canyon and the Colorado, but put an underwhelming but thrifty 5 cyl. in them. None of the 2000's trucks have the same design goals the 80's and 90's trucks did. They all had to compromise somthing. Just like in the 70's, Chrysler held on the best to the old feel with the V8 past what the rest of the manufacturers would. But they did push crew cab much harder for stock on the dealer lots for the last gen. And they got heavier, but everything did for "safety".
I do give Chrysler credit for hanging the Dakota out there all the way to 2012. They brutalized the Durango in that generation though, what a POS compared to the late 90's tanks.

Honestly, looking at early 2000's trucks, the tacoma is a small truck. The Tundra was not supposed to be, but if you park a 2005 Tundra next to a new Colorado it shows how things have progressed. The 07 Tundra ballooned like every one else. So even Japan couldn't make a small truck anymore.

My dad back in the day had a 53 Plymouth 3 on the tree, it might have been a Cranbrook, and I also have no idea what that is, but this one had a vacuum actuated OD, that required the driver to blip the throttle to initiate OD, My Dad was so proud of it as he could milk out of it 17? mpg, and he owned a gas station. :rolleyes:
 
Slants are cool!

They can give years of good service when properly maintained....AND, when NOT properly maintained, they can yield aftermarket parts without any prior notice!!!! :lol:

For example.....I found this under the hood of my recently acquired '65 Dart tracking down a pesky exhaust leak....SCORE!!!!!!

Looks like a Dutra Dual "Starter Kit"...:rofl:

Idk. Maybe stelantis should bring back the turbine engine coupled to electric motors a (turbine hybrid) so when ww3 rears its ugly head, the car can run on anything flammable.
I'd buy one! It would sound awesome!
