I am on my return trip from the turkey run in daytona and my 65 coronet 500 fried a right rear axle bearing and spit the axle out against the fender....!!!!

It's sunday night and I got AAA to send a roll back and tow me to the La Quinta inn at exit 6 on 185.

If anyone in the area see's this I need a right rear axle with a bearing ....or a reputable repair shop close by.

Wow! That's not a very common thing to happen on a Mopar! Hope someone comes to help....

What an ordeal... Never seen anyone use the forum for rescue... Wow that is a tough situation your in, did you get out of there yet ?, did it damage anything ?, any local wrecking yards you can dig around in ? I'm of no help at all, sorry as I'm in Calif. 2500 miles away, just curious...

Will, I'm here in Columbus Ga...left a message on your Voice mail....think I can fix ya right up...call me !!

I actually had that happen to me, with my '65!!! The whole tire and rim, brake drum and axle shot out of the car (left rear) and across to the other side of the highway. I dragged the backing plate on the ground for a few hundred feet.

Way to go PoppaSmurf, hope you guys got it fixed and going, let us know.

same thing happened to me in my 55 studebaker. The wheel, brake, axle popped out while I was taking a corner, it passed me and went on down the road about an 1/8 of a mile. that was a bad day. I put a chrysler 7 1/4 rear end in it after that. only problem with that is studebakers turn opposite of dodge. so I ended up having 3 reverse gears and 1 forward, another bad day.

Update........

Home safe and sound.!!!

Monday morning I located a AAmco shop in columbus that could get my Dodge in right away. An hour later AAA showed up and carried the car there, where it took 6 hours to do a 2 hour job. BUT.... all ended well and I was able to continue the trip home to Alabama.

I was amazed at the response, well wishes and offers to help I received from posting on the Mopar sites. Although I had already made the arraingements to repair the car I received offers of shop space from Dan in Columbus, parts and help from Tim, aka "papasmurff", Ron from Ohio took the time to locate several repair shops in Coulmbus and call me with the information and Joe from Tuscalusa Ala offered to bring an axle and bearing along with a trailer, (over 100 miles), just in case.

The only damage substained in the incident was a scuffed sidewall on the tire and a minor crack in the paint at the wheel opening...

I'm proud to be involved with the Mopar group here and at the A,E & C body sites. Thanks to all who responded.

Will.

:hello2:Glad it didn't mess anything up on the car or yourself.
Times like that is when you find out who your real friends are.
Thankfully theirs plenty here.

Glad to hear it worked out ok, Will. Good group of folks here.

Not a member now but was for years over on the TDR and they have a great rescue forum and a list of members that are willing to help and where they are located and what they have to help with from a full shop to just some shelter. Worth a look into for us here....

Cranky I couldn't agree with ya more...that would be totally useful....kind of a nation wide thing...maybe start a contact list per region???
