Broke my 7UP Pop Machine today....

Wow, nearly a full year since you started this thread! How's the pop machine doing? :)
Took a lot of stops in this one horse town to find a F8T5 bulb and a starter ballast.... but another thing off the list!

Man...this is one thread I had all intentions of staying in tune with but lost track nearly right out of the gate. I'll admit, 600+ posts later that's a minute or two of reading to say the least.
I apologize @dadsbee. The timing of this incident coincided with a bit of a curveball in life I had thrown at me at the time and I was all over the place.
After a brief preview, it appears all is going well with this in general? I certainly hope so...

Well if the rain keeps pissing down I may actually get to start putting Humpty back together again! Lots of Fall work to get done outside, but can't do it in a monsoon!

Wiped her down again with cold water and a micro cloth trying to knock more clear nubs off. Car will need a cut and buff before I can float decals on.

Wiped and vacuumed the dust out of the interior, trunk tomorrow I guess as it's supposed to be raining even harder tomorrow.

Another crappy day, time to bolt a few things back onto the car.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 117.jpg

The life of a spare tire!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 133.jpg

We'll get to these on the next rainy day.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 140.jpg

Parts, parts and more parts. What can I put on where the car doesn't need the clear coat buffed out?
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 143.jpg

Never just as easy as bolting something back on, it's all in the details.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 153.jpg

Bugger getting the goo out of the parting line.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 156.jpg

Good as she's gonna get.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 160.jpg

Plymouth tail panel letters I refurbished back in the Winter.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 165.jpg

Tail lights and a trunk seal are next I guess.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly 168.jpg

Horn back in.

I was sent a PM about the washer container. Yes, originals opened front to back. This container was on the car in 1990 when I bought it, the container was already quite yellowed. It was probably a Chrysler parts counter purchase in the late 70's, early '80's. Someone at Chrysler determined that it made more sense to have them open back to front and started making the service counter parts supply that way, so they couldn't "blow open in the wind". Why most reproduction suppliers in the 21 century started doing the same, duplicating the parts counter piece vs OE.

damn , sorry to see that all happened. i hope for a speedy recovery! been in similar situations never that intense though….

Well now I have to go out to the shop to take a peek.

Well I'll be damned. Learn something new every day! Who says a old dog can't learn new tricks?

Found a couple hours to putter. Original trunk mat back in.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 002.jpg

Spare tire and lug bars back in.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 005.jpg

Quarter extensions ready to reinstall.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 007.jpg

Where they go...
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 008.jpg

Drivers side fits beautiful.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 010.jpg

Passenger side as good as it gets..
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 012.jpg

Tail light time.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 018.jpg

Time to fill the hole.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 019.jpg

Bezel in and tail light installed from behind.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 024.jpg

Trunk lock tumbler in and both tail lights snugged up.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 026.jpg

Right side light was always not as bright as left for some weird reason.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 028.jpg

Went through 7 of my spare old bulbs until I got both sides to match in brightness!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 029.jpg

Tab lock barrels for the road runner script into their holes and pushed flush.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 034.jpg

Script back on.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 041.jpg

Maybe rear bumper and licence plate light next..

I bought new wing upright gaskets some 33 years ago. I actually found them before tearing the car apart. Now where the f they went, along with an original AWOL... I have no idea at this point! Looked for them for 3 or 4 days and gave up.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 062.jpg

Bought a 145' roll of roofing felt, for less money than ordering a pair of gaskets and paying shipping. $81 Cdn for the roll, I can now make about 290 pairs of gaskets!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 063.jpg

OE gasket and the die cast wing upright.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 060.jpg

Test fit to see if it needs adjustments as a pattern.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 061.jpg

One upright worked good with the one gasket I thankfully found, the other needed a bit of addition.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 067.jpg

Traced out ready to cut out.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 071.jpg

Ready to punch the stud holes
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 073.jpg

Piece of scrap pipe ground into a hole punch.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 075.jpg

All she wrote..
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 077.jpg

Ready to install.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 081.jpg

Always wondered why I had water in the trunk. The rear glass plug transition triangles attach holes with no gasket or seal.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 083.jpg

We have foam for that.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 085.jpg

That should help.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 084.jpg

Fillers in place.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 095.jpg

One upright loosely into place.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 098.jpg

Both on loose.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 100.jpg

Wing time..
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 109.jpg

Socket head bolts cleaned up and a bit of anti-seize.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 118.jpg

Ready to install the wing.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 120.jpg

Small pin limits the wing rotation. Plastic minimizes paint chipping.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 123.jpg

Wing tightened to uprights first for nice alignment and then the uprights snugged down to the quarter panel and internal brace system.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 132.jpg

Starting to look like a Bird again..
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 136.jpg

superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 139.jpg

Same deal on the fake side scoops. A bit of foam to seal the stud holes.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly2 141.jpg

We're getting there. Now I can put the rear seat door cards back in and the back seat.
