Buddy Baker, Daytona Video Breaking 200 mph in 1970, Great Sound!

I love them ol' vintage racing shots...

1970 in a lot of ways was the swan song for America. It was the last year for Ford and GM muscle cars. Dodge was breaking the 200 mph barrier, we were putting men on the moon while fighting a war in Viet Nam and the cold war. The music and the entertainers of the era actually possessed talent. Gas was $.36 a gallon. Just to name a few... Ever since that glorious year we have begun our journey of circling the bowl as a nation.

I met Buddy Baker at Dover years ago and had him sign this same photo in the book "Supercars" that came out in the mid 90's. Really miss him as color commentator on races... 200sign2.jpg

That sounded like Jim McKay doing the commentary. He was the announcer on the old Wide World of Sports on ABC back in the late 60s and 70s. Before they had flag to flag broadcasts of the NASCAR races, the only place you could see any of the racing was on Wide World, and it was usually only about a 20 minute highlight segment. Those old stockers running around at those speeds were pretty impressive.
