Hey guys,

I am about to order a Dana 60 for use behind what will be a 500 inch stroker. Street use only, behind a Torqueflite. The car is a '68 B-body. I have a couple of choices and would like some advice.

The first one is, do i go with a Trac-loc or a True-Trac center section? I know the latter is stronger than the former, but wonder if I need to spend the extra money for it.

Also, do I need to spring for the chrome moly yoke? This is also extra cost.

Your advice is appreciated.

Trac Lock and regular yoke is fine without slicks.

The two piece power lock is ten times stronger. If your going to spend the money for a dana don't cheapinout on the center section or the yoke. It get's done once and your done. Sure it is behind a torque flight which makes life easier but the few Hundred more and is fully industricultible

I run the 60 with trac-loc in a pulling truck with mod tires and 5000lbs on the front axle that has over twice as much HP as your going to run.Never had a nickels worth of trouble with it.But like Snakeoil said,it is always nice to have the best parts you can afford. If you have a strict budget though,it will be fine and if setup correctly, will live a long life. If you want to see how strong something is,put it in a pulling truck. LOL

Upgraded to the moly yolk on my s60, only 50 dollar upgrade cant pass that up. I also got the s trac differential.

I run generic Dr Diff gears and yoke in my 9.0 Belvedere. It did bend the teeth after 375 passes. Been 1.24 60ft @3350lbs.

Doug, you didn't say what you are going to do with that much power/torque but for hard use and longevity I believe in the Dana Power Loc or the Detroit Locker. I know the Detroit isn't mopar but they are strong bastards as well as the power loc. I know they are talking the that newer S-Trac up a lot and the Dr. told me that it will easily surpass the afore mentioned at higher power/torque ratings and if I were building a new fangled fancy smancy road car like many are doing these days I believe I would use the new S- trac. but I've known and used the 2 earlier ones and they will continue as a old hot rodder to stick with them. I will say that for road course and general HIGH speed cars that S- trac is supposed to slide in and out very smoothly while you could get into trouble with the older ones that are tightened up. I heard many years ago that is the reason they went to the trac-loc in 69-70 because of getting into a situation on rainy roads and curves at 70 mph or faster with wide tires of the day with manual trans and a tight power-loc you could easily loose control with a 4:10- 3:91 OR EVEN THE 3:23 because they don't release as easy as the newer S-loc under spirited driving. Good luck.
