My durango took a dump today
I have a 2004 durango 195K that was well maintained been sitting for a month
been running around with my dakota
well I got in it before cranked the motor over and it threw a rod!
not sure whjat to do now
surfing now looking for a motor not sure if it's worth rebuilding the motor or just replacing it

The reality is it will (probably) cost less to replace the motor than buy a new set of problems (another, unknown car)

Assuming your Durango is otherwise tip top, I'd maybe just replace the motor

what size motor ?

WOW! That sucks! I have a 150K mile 02 with a 4.7 and so far (knocking on wood as I write) it's fine. Hope you find a low cost and low stress solution. I'm with 69 Runner; if everything else is good just swap the engine.

I would be very afraid of buying a used motor on craigslist with no warranty unless it was near free...or in the vehicle and you can hear it. 2cents.

I have a low milage motor lined up I'm hoping a buddy of mine can do the swap in shop for me
not something I want to do in my driveway no room in garage and looks like a PIA to pull

Had a rod knock in my 99 S15 and it was getting worse. I found a good motor in a boneyard 50 miles from home, drove to pick it up, and barely made it home. Rod bearing wiped out, so oil pressure was at zero at idle. Limped it to the mechanic, $500 later I had a nice running motor and new clutch installed. That was over five years ago, still have the truck and it runs fine. If the body and tranny are good, I agree with the idea of swapping a new-to-you motor in.

body is good trans is good ( I can easily rebuild it if I had to)
truthfully I can replace the vehicle for 5000.00 so I'll swap out the motor

thats a good motor as long as you dont let it get hot ... they will go through head gaskets and drop valve seats soon as the temp gets too high !

Just a thought but could your buddy get you a price on a rebuilt shrtblock with a warrenty

I am in the business and have contacts a short Block is 3 G's
have a complete motor carb to pan 1000.00 Xmas time $$$ is tight!

picked up a replacement with 54K on it should be done by next week
I have a buddy of mine doing it at his shop

in shop now drove it on to the flat bed ran pretty good considering it most likely drop a valve and broke piston/and or rod
need to swap pans so I will see what actually broke :puke:

:worthless_thread:

You must show pics of the mechanical carnage,PDF. We like the "It done blowed up" visuals-Lord knows I've created a few.

I have put 40K on the replacement motor since I started this thread!
turns out while the truck sat the injector must have leaked and filled #5 cylinder rod broke in half and came through the block.
the rest of the motor was pristine! no ridge on cyl walls, crank wasnt damaged hardly any carbon build up for a motor with 195K
