I'm finding that the hole size in the back of my 8 bolt Callies Magnum crank is tighter than I remember, when putting the torque converter pilot end in when installing the transmission.
I put grease in the hole and on the pilot end of the conveter prior to assembly.
Do you guys, do any clearancing on the crank or pilot hole prior to installation. Seems very tight and I don't remember this ever being an issue before. I tried 3 converters and all 3 are tight going in.
I think after the grease heats up , and falls off, the converter is going to be a bear coming out.

Same problem here. I turned the ring down on the converter because it was easier than pulling the motor to get at the crank.

Don't do that, those pilots aren't that thick, you can blow through the pilot causing a huge leak.
I just honed out my crank pilot hole some with a brake caliper honing tool on a drill and some emery cloth. Also I used a flapper wheel to take a little off.
Got to be patient and spend the time to get it right. My trans just got put back in tonight. Had a cracked hub and pilot was leaking .
A1 converters picked mine up and is fixing it free and shipping it back free. They have awesome customer service.

I just put back in my old reliable turbo Action 8" converter.

Your right about that. But I was a bit frustrated and wanted it back together asap. My converter (Continetal) might have been based on a different core as it has a ring welded to the pilot. It still has plenty of material there.

I'll rephrase, the area where I see is the thinnest is at the front tapered part. Otherwise you're good to go.
