Hey,
I am looking for a new ignition set up for my charger. It has an older Mopar electronic ignition (distributor 4120942) that had the reluctor (p5153576) go bad. So now I am trying to figure out two things. 1: Does anyone know where I could find a reluctor for this ignition? It is listed in the Mopar catalog, but everywhere I call says its discontinued. 2: If I can find a new reluctor, what is the best ignition for a 440? I am leaning towards a MSD pro billet with a 6AL box. I like the 6AL because it can be chipped for various rev limits, but I have heard varying accounts about Mallory and Crane. Any suggestions?

I use the " MSD ready to run " Distributor with a "Blaster 2" ignition coil ... the good thing is that I don´t need the ballast resistor anymore... and the MSD Distributor is easy to recurve... ( if you know the correct numbers.... i.e initial /full advance and how fast the timing should be all in . )

Hope that helps

Greetings from Germany

reluctors usually don't "go bad"...they just ride around on the dist shaft....I got lots here if ya really need one....post a pic of what yer looking for

I run the FireCore distributor now and love it. With a MSD 6AL box and MSD coil, no voltage reg or ballast to deal with one wire tuff stuff alt and yellow cap resto battery. Love my set up voltage meter always shows 14-15vdc while running and 13 when just key on.

msd pro billet, 6al digital box, blaster coil and wires to match. love it!!!!!!! woke up my 440, no starting issues really easy to adjust, build in rev limiter has 2 dials. just remember to connect the blue and brown wires together or it will shut off on you when you return the key to run position. I learned the hard way.

Reluctor pickups is what goes bad....

and mostly sure accomplished by a firecore dist ( I'm Running MP though )

they seem to be built more precission. MP units have some play and unprecission into the advance system ( same than stock ), hard to tune up

and of course firecore spark plug wires ( 250 for Street, 50 for race )

I just finished installing a Pro billet msd with msd coil and 6al2 programmable.
Replaced the old mopar ignition setup. Went in pretty easy..woke things up for sure!! Just my 2 cents.. Good luck!

Isn't the orange box an actual after market item? I mean we went from points to an electronic upgrade right? lol So calling the orange box a stock look would only be correct for what years 74 up?

Thanks everyone for the advice. A383wing, to clarify, it was the pickup that went bad. Not the reluctor itself. I will look into the Firecore, however the MSD is in the lead right now!

firecore has an advantage, if we can call it on that way... uses stock pieces available everywhere for parts replacements. Just better built

and once again, I seriouslly advice the Rev-N-Nator. Despite MP units ( regrettably ). MP units really work GREAT, but just for the time they work :icon_frown:

As far as I know all the factory ECU's were black or blue. The orange and silver were from Mopar Performance parts. I bought an orange box in 1999 and it's still on my 63 working great. Ron
