Hi Michi, a fine looking Sheriff car, looks ready to cruise the strip. And I know you've been on here before, but a belated welcome anyway!

My Rosco

The build went well. Rosco is very fast. Has 290 gears. Top end on paper @6500 rpm is over 150 mph. The car will fall apart first. May do some lower gears over the winter. Engine dyno'd at 427 hp at 6300 rpm. Forgot what the torque was.

Hope its ok to resurrect this old thread. This is my first post here and very glad to find you guys. I just purchased a 78 CHP 440 Monaco, attached is a pic of it in my driveway on Day 1. It's a really nice solid CA car that of course needs paint. It has been neglected and left out in the sun for a few years and I plan on restoring it. Interior is pretty sweet actually. Still fitted out in all its police glory. Thing is this is my first Mopar so I have a ton of questions. I haven't turned a wrench in over 20 years do to injuries but I have improved enough that I can do little stuff if I am careful. Who are some of the best places to get parts for it online? What manuals do you recommend for repairs etc? I need to get the highbeams working, wipers (motor runs but wipers aren't), find all new weatherstriping, a few trim pieces, I'd like to get a new trunk lid as the former owner popped the lock out and buggered that up in the process

and thats it for now off the top of my head. My goal this year is to clean it up, get it running perfectly (runs good now), tighten up the suspension with all poly bushings as I hear and read that is the way to go. Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and glad to find you guys! Billy

Hi Billy, welcome! :welcome: There's actually a welcome wagon thread where you'll have a better chance of letting people see you here.
Nice car, looks pretty solid, a good find!

The hi beams problem is probably the dimmer switch and the bushings in the wiper linkage need replaced pretty common problem .

Thank you! Working on the passenger door that won't latch tonight. Can't drive it around till I get that sorted out. Appreciate any and all advice!

Will give it a shot, I can't figure out why its not latching. Everything in there is under tension....will try the penetrating oil. Thanks

Need to ask all of you with a police special for some help. I have a 78 Fury police car. It was optioned out with the a38 package from what I can tell. I’m trying to get replacement bushings for the sway bar and struts. They don’t seem to be the same as a standard 78 Fury. What did you use? Thanks for any help.

Try bouncing your request off of Craig, otherwise known as FBBO member @mobileparts

He has all sorts of suspension parts.

This is my 1977 Plymouth Fury A38 (RK41) police package car with the E68 400 high performance engine. I've had this car since 1986. It has 380,000 miles on the original un-rebuilt engine, although I have cleaned and painted the exterior. I rebuilt the transmission in the 90s, adding a Transgo shift kit and Direct Connection deep pan. The engine will get rebuilt next year. It's essentially stock with 1974 high performance manifolds and dual exhaust replacing the original exhaust. The original Electronic Lean Burn system was replaced with a Direct Connection distributor with a stock Mopar blue ECU and the original Thermo-Quad was replaced with an earlier Thermo-Quad. In addition to the power steering and transmission fluid coolers, it also has the factory engine oil cooler.

I've made some improvements to its police suspension including a rebuilt front end, new leaf springs, gas shocks, poly urethane sway bar bushings, and Direct Connection front subframe iron mounts. The transmission crossmember rubber mounts have been replaced with polyurethane. The original 15x6.5" un-slotted wheels were replaced with 1978 15x7" slotted police wheels. I added Sure Grip to the original 3.21:1 9-1/4" rear axle. The original plain seat covers and rubber floor mat were in rough shape, so I replaced them with pleated covers and carpet. It was originally a radio delete car, but the dash had been hacked for an aftermarket radio. I replaced the hacked trim with one with the factory radio opening and added an NOS Chrysler AM/FM/8-track radio plus a factory 3-speaker dash and rear package tray speakers.

The first exterior pictures show what it looked like back in July of this year. It is undergoing bodywork now for a repaint in black&white with NOS bumpers, grille, mirrors, light lenses & assemblies, etc. It's on hold until next spring. One picture shows it where I was playing with black and grey primer as a preview of how it will look painted. The last two exterior pictures show it currently.

Its time to see whats inside of his engine. It was rebuilt but not by me. Im going to have it balanced as it vibrates. Im also going to change the cam, heads, intake carb, igniton, headers, exhaust and gears. I want this car to scare my fiends when i take them for a ride.View attachment 154296

I had a friend that would buy New York State Trooper cars but only the Detective cars since they had upgraded interiors and lower mileage. We used to drive down south to purchase cars and people would just about drive off the side of the when we pulled behind them as we were cruising at 80 or more and they were going 65.
