CalTrac's or Assassin Bars

So I bought the Cal Tracs. Slowly getting the mechanicals done first.
 
I have Caltracs with -1" split mono leafs mini tubbed with 315/60/15 Drag Radials or 29.5x10.5W Slicks.

I talked with a guy that's had a REALLY nice old Dodge 330, built RB putting out about 650HP and has an extensive roll cage, really trick rear suspension, fuel cell..looks like a track car, but really beautiful to look at.
HUGE tubs and HUGE, REALLY WIDE "street tires" in that they have tread voids across the entire width. He said absolutely NO traction on the street.
I'm going to have to find something that can get me some grip on the street, even though I may have a little more HP/Torque than he does, and with some other cars I saw that obviously had totally tricked out "track focused" frames and suspensions, they either had really wide almost no tread void drag tires that had DOT approval OR just had slicks.
I was hoping if I get caught in the rain I'd be able to slow down and drive through it, but I don't know now.
Maybe I can look to the Drag Week folks for answers?

Your rear suspension components in the Charger on the drag strip pic (lifting both front tires off the track-gotta love that pic!) give me hope that there's a way to hook, on the track at least, with what I have. Thanks
 
It always gets hard to hook on the street. At the track, even an unprepped track is stickier than the asphalt which does not have a smooth surface. It’s closer to lots of pebbles all at the same height.

I do wonder about the few cars that I have seen on the street that pull the wheels up high though. I remember seeing some guy in a 90’s Mustang pulling the wheels up more than 2 feet high. Quite a sight.
 
@rumblefish360 I saw a nice 1979 Chrysler 300 at the MOPARS IN DA BAY event at Cruisin the Coast this year. Your profile pic reminds me of it.
It had the same engine I had in my 79 Aspen R/T, the "E58 option 'police' 360 4bbl with the crappy Lean Burn ecu. 180 horsepower was the rated output. When the ecu would occasionally decide that the engine should stop running, I could never tell how long that session would last. Could be a minute or 20 minutes. There wasn't any way to tell, and I have no idea what caused it, other than it was that Lean Burn ecu.
When I converted over to a "normal" Mopar electronic ignition system and swapped on a Holley carb, my car friends and I had a ceremony for the Lean Burn circuitry. I removed the gel encased circuit board from the black plastic case that was attached to the factory air cleaner and cut it in half with metal shears. Half went in a 55 gallon drum that we had a fire going in, and then we drove out to The Point on Lake Pontchartrain and threw the other half into the lake.
I never had a dead engine surprise again after I made the swap.
 
@biomedtechguy Thanks. I wish that was my actual Magnum. Mine is a ‘79, White/Red interior. It came with a 318/904/8-1/4. I purchased off of the original owner w/over 323,000. He stopped recording on paper everything he did to it then.

I asked him two questions. Why did you stop recording and how the heck do you put over 300K on a car in 10 years. Simple he said, “I hate flying and the family took a trip twice a year a cross from he country. We haven’t been to Mexico or Alaska yet.”
“I then gave it to my daughter for 4 years of collage in upstate NY, then my son got it for 4 more years. I then used it the last 10 as my daily driver in and out of Queens NY, he lives in Babylon. It’s 40 miles one way. Do the math…..

The Leanburn was replaced already but I know exactly what you mean since my first Magnum (A Twin) had the lean burn which was promptly fired in flavor of the older orange box ignition.

Currently it sports a ‘00-5.9/727&3.55 gears on 245/60/15’s on all 4 corners. The car was advertised as a GT. It was dealship dressed up as one a/red stripes. They weren’t there anymore. I didn’t care because it was a $500 car I was going to modify and have fun with. So I gave the 5.9 simple bolt on parts. RPM, 750 AFB, chrome box and upgraded distributor, Hooker 1-3/4 headers into a 2-1/2 exhaust. It has a 2500 stall.
S/S springs & a Camshaft next! (If I can get what I want.)
Body work - maybe. I’ve never done it before.

Same body under the sheet metal as the 300 and it rides the same. I took my old one up and down the eastern coast an easy dozen time without any issue ever. Love driving this machine.
