Came home today with a '64 Polara 500

My first 64 Polara was was black but just as complete. I got it like that back in 1995 when they were cheap to buy. Mine had 383 a/c buckets console p/s pb and a crap load of chrome like yours and I paid 1200.00 for it running. I regretted cutting it up to build my street/race car that I never finished. keep it just like it is as they look good with all the chrome. Nice deal.

Update

Did some clean up and got the Polara running this weekend. The 440 runs really strong. Brought it up about 2" and put a set of Cragar SST's that I had on it. I'm liking it more everyday.

Nice machine! It looks to be in similar condition as mine when I got it. Mine also has a similar story & is also from Washington/Oregon area.

That is a great find, don't like to be a stick in the mud but I like the cop wheels on the car. What wheel would you like to see on the old car?

I'm with 62Furious, I love the steel wheel look.... Congratulations on a great find - it looks great!!!

Great find, hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Sweet car! I miss the one I had back when I was a kid. Sorry for the crappy pictures but they were scanned from 40 year old prints.

I LOVE the knockoffs with the Road Wheels! ive heard it's a PITA to get the lugs off of wheels with knockoffs though...that's why i haven't done it to my car. YET!! lol

Yup, they were kind of a PITA. And they weren't easy to come by. These came from the factory this way. I bought the car from my mom's cousin who bought it new in 65...it was a factory demonstrator (executive car) It was all decked out. 383 4bbl torqueflite factory AM/FM with reverb, vinyl top, PS, PB, AC buckets, console floor shift and the Mag 500's. At one point when I had some new tires put on they guy took a mallet and hit the spinners around breaking three of them. They had a terrible time finding them. Are they available today?

Added few thing to the Polara recently. The horn ring was broke on the original steering wheel so I installed an old Superior that I had. Had this old B&M shift knob laying around the shop and it fit perfectly on the stock shifter. The thing I like best is the Hemi style hood scoop that I picked up at the Hotrod Reunion in Bakersfield. It needs a little work before I mount it. To break up all the white I'm thinking of painting the roof and scoop light metallic turquoise.

WTF did he hit the spinners around for?? Idiot!!! those spinners are held on by 3(?) bolts on the back!! they're not real knockoffs that are supposed to come off with the mallet! you can clearly see the lug nuts behind the spinner!! Jeez.

anyways, i think they are still available. IIRC summit actually had them a couple years back for the magnum 500's.

they look like these?

The idiot whacked them around so he could get to the lug nuts. Yup, that's what they looked like. Back in the day it took them 3 months to hunt them down. I was just real close to making them buy me a new set of wheels.

To stay on topic here; I love the carport find. You are one very lucky guy! I like the wheels you have chosen, but the scoop isn't my cup of tea. Just MO, it's your car and you can do what you want.

After looking closer at those spinners, they are close, but the originals were a bit more "sharp". these new ones are a little more rounded. But then again my mind might be a little fuzzy in remembering :) It was more than 40 years ago.
