Looking for some advice on cam selection..i have a 1968 440 block bored .30 over with trw flat tops pistons.a set of stealth aluminum heads and super comp headers. Edelbrock torker single plain intake with quick fuel 850 annular discharge carb.tci street fighter trans with 3000 stall tci converter.dr diff axles and 4.30 gears..car will only be street drivin around town..no long crusies or drag strips...thanks

Xtreme Energy™, XR280HR-10.

Thinking being...hydraulic easier on street with less maintenance.
Being a roller no need to worry about special oils
Still enough of a cam that you arent wasting all the other stuff you have going on.

I use Xtreme Energy™, XR292R-10 on the street with no real issues...Just need to keep the oil pressure up to about 30lbs (high pressure oil pump) at idle and adjust the valve lash every so often. Similar setup to yours.

533 lift flat tappet cam from mopar performance.Works very well for the weekend warrior.Ran the same cam in a similar build.Have built others similar with that cam.Its a good choice for the stealth and edelbrock rpms.

I use a comp 305h. It will not leave you disappointed. My motor and drivetrain is very similar to yours. I use a dual plane RPM manifold though. Don't totally trust what a cam manufacturer "tech" person will recommend for you. I called a cam manufacturer, maybe comp, after my engine builder had already selected this cam, it dyno'd at over 500 ft lbs of torque from off idle to 5700 rpm, peaked at 560 ft lbs at 4900 rpm, and made 543 hp at 5700 rpm, and they said this cam was too big and would not work good in my car. That I needed a 480 lift cam and I should be running the small 1 3/4 headers because I needed all the torque I could get, and that the bigger cam would not have the bottom end I would need to get the car off the line and moving. Gee that is odd. Sometimes I burn rubber on accident.

Thats real close to the old 440 combo I ran in my 63. I used the MP solid flat tappet .557 cam and I really liked it. I had 906 heads and a 9.5 Dynamic converter that flashed about 4200 and had 4.30's. Weighed 3700 lbs and ran 11.49 @ 116 best. I only adjusted the valves once a year. It was a nice running combo.
