Looking at a Charger, only have pictures right now…note attached pic of firewall, area circled in RED. I can’t figure out what that piece on the firewall is? Any thoughts?

I was thinking that it also could be a combo of what was stated above but also thinking that that it could also be a patch to cover some of an area that might have rusted out. How is the rest of the cars body??
 
I did the same sort of thing to Jigsaw.....

I took the time to patch in a non A/C section by welding, using body filler and seam sealer.
 
So….. nothing too much to worry about?
Not anything to worry about, but the crude patch job wouldn't work in my world. I did the same thing on a 70 Duster years ago, but made the patch look perfect just like Kern Dog did.

Yeah, but seeing as he has a camaro engine bay (black) he could touch that up and make it more livable in a hour.. :)
