This is suppose to be a numbers matching engine for my 62 polara 500. I see the "HP" but is it a 361?

Could be a 413.

WOW, I can only hope. It`s a 62 Dodge Polara 500 2 door hardtop numbers matching! Isn`t a 413 a rb? This has the marking under the dist boss.

A 413 is an RB. Is there any numbers on the side of the block? Someone will pop up here and clue us in. On an RB the block is 3/4" taller than a 383 or 400

Hey look! It's her Sister  Where did you find your numbers? Mine is on a flat boss, on the block, behind the alt. (More pics please of the rest of your car!

come on folks

Folks, why do the replies put so much work into what is plain to see. It is a low block, plain to see so its not a 413. It is an S so you know it is a 62 engine, well 361's were standard in the Polara 500. Check that off list, and 36 is the just too close to 361 the standard engine. Plus if you read the first pages of the service manual you know that only the first 2 digits of the cid are stamped on the block.
Mystery solved.

The top photo shows the engine parts are pretty unmolested. The return spring holddown is original. Even the metal fuel line to carb looks correct. Color got changed at some point, no light blue was used. Carb looks original.

Khryslerkid whats the the holes in passenger side of your firewall for?I've got them on my 64 Polara I just got.Didn't think it was A/C lines.

Hey Red, Thanks for your reply on this subject but do please remember. It is not a mandatory requirement that one should know everything about a mopar to be able to take part in a discussion on this site. Some come here to gain knowledge as they probably dont know the answer and most amswers come from folks that have knowledge of the subject matter and are willing to assist in transfering that knowledge to another fellow mopar enthusiust, like your self. Please dont be put out if you see someone that's not as intelligent as your self in any particular field that you may have knowledge in. Bet ya dont know the first thing about a hemroid transplant but we aint gona think of you as an idiot. I'm trying to perfect the procedure as we speak but i'm having trouble finding any recips.
Thanks for your help.

For 1962 the standard engine in a Dodge Polara 500 (and optional in the Dart) was a 305hp 361 with 4bbl carburetor. 413's were available with 4bbl carburetor rated at 365hp and 2 4bbl carburetors (max wedges) rated at 415hp.

No 383's until 1963.

More on issue and engine

small block, I hear your point, and it is taken well.
There two separate issues on what I see on replies: (1) guessing on an 'answer' in an 'offhand' way, which contributes nothing, and (2) stating inaccurate info which leads the discussion down a blind alley, and then perpetuates more wrong 'gospel' to someone. Inaccurate info usually comes from people with a narrow or limited experience.
My normal reaction to reading a post is to say nothing and not reply, even if I could confirm something positive. If I cant be certain to the nature of the thread, I write nothing. Believe me there is much I could write on but it isn't my goal to make any presence on the chat.

My point is given another prime example on the post above "no 383's until 1963" Absolutely NOT true, they were in 62 Chryslers and b body police cars. See page INF 14 of the 62 parts book, that is the pink ones. 413's I guess were put in the Dart / Polara in 62 from some of the reading I've seen but very rare. Yes the late 62's came with max 413, but these were stamped a bit different than the std auto 4 barrel engine. AND THIS IS WHAT THE TREAD WAS ALL ABOUT. S 36 , S 38 , S 41

The comment about the roid transplant is exactly a good point. I know a little about it, but not enough to contribute, and I wouldn't post something. I figure there are others that have gone down that road to the full end.

Ok after all thats outa the way,I was baffled by the holes in passenger side of firewall.I don't recall seeing these before in 62-64 b-bodies.Mind you I've only had one 63 Fury I restored.Did alot of boneyard crawls and swapmeets. My 64 Polara has these holes,A/C?

Good info Red and much appriciated and hopefully mor in the future. People with this sort of knowledge are an asset here. What yr did the 383 Golden Lion show up?
Thanks

...QUOTE]

In 1962 a 330hp, 383, was availble in a Plymouth Sport Fury but not in a Dodge Polara/Dart.

The 365hp, 413, was available in the Dodge Polara/Dart but not in any Plymouth.

A 265hp, 2bbl 361 a 305hp, 4bbl 383 and a 340hp, 4bbl 413 were standard in the Chrysler Newport, 300 and New Yorker respectively.

Holes in wall, whole deal

On to the 'holes in firewall' . Clearly not a factory set of holes. Only guess is some dealer install of a under dash a/c unit. If it were me , in a resto, I'd weld in some metal patch. There were a lot of deal install items in early 60's before standardized option lists. Meant great variability in placement. Antennas are the biggest example. The kit included a template for placement but not always followed.

RE; Golden Lion 383. Odd ball RB 383 came out in 1959 and 60. Not 61. Im sure the dealers had a hard time explaining the difference to customers, and there was little retail gain in having two different platforms.

My 65 Plymouth has a/c and the hole are in the exact spot ,It had the dealer a/c installed ,with the under dash .

Mine has a plastic black cover that goes over it. It`s very brittle but still there. I will take a photo for ya.:) I can`t believe it hasn`t sold yet. I just thought it was to rare and to solid to build up and install my stroked 440. Maybe I am wrong.I dunno. I bought it to build until I figured out that it was numbers matching power window sure grip car. My bad, it don`t have the same holes in mine. Sorry.

Good question! I was thinking A/C lines.

This car was ordered without A/C, pwr steering, pwr brakes, radio delete. Older people were like that in those days. I use to work on their cars and they were always saying that they didn't want the options. "More to go wrong" was their veiwpoint! Made since to me

I didn't realise it was for sale! (more pics please) Things are slow right now for selling anything but I like your idea about placing a 440 in it  Most but not all have 440's in them with 413 decals. I haven't made up my mind yet about the engine but if I am wanting to have some fun with it, I will pull the original driveline and engine and pack it away, replace them with a 383 or 440, built trans and newer style 8 3/4 and tear up some *** fault!

Thanks guys!I kinda figured A/C lines just position was wrong. As far as selling kikgas01 I dunno what the problem is?The economy sucks but I've talked to people on my 66 and they go get a worse project for the same money and have ton it when done!Well good luck and i'll pm you b4 i go to Dubuque Mopar show.
