Can the metal rear seat tags attached to the seat springs be decoded? Plus, rear seat info that I unfortunately found out.

A while back, I bought a set of re-upholstered rear seats for my 62 Polara 2 door. The guy said they came out of a 63 "B" Body and I figured no problem. I did not ask him what model of a 63 they came out of. I figured, 62 to 65 are usually identical, right? Well, not on the rear seats. The 63 seats will NOT fit at all being they are too wide by 3" measuring along the top of the rear steel deck. (56" v/s 53" on my original seats) On my 62 seat & the 63 seat is a numerical metal strip tag. I was wondering if someone can decode these or are they like the seat belts that are impossible to decode? Now I'm wondering if 2 door rear seats are different from 4 door rear seats? It would not make logical sense but we know how funky these MoPar designers were. :poke:

In the pics, the 63 seats are the nice silver inlaid ones. Also, you can see how the 63 seats were fortified with the black metal braces and are way heavier and taller (wider).

ANY comments are definitely welcomed.
:thankyou:

Those 63 seats look just like my 62 seats.
Mine have the large rectangular brackets at the base of the seat back that bolt to the floor.
Iirc, mine also have the large metal braces.

I had seat covers made locally, as no one reproduces, and it made them a little wider, had to push them in to 'seat' them, pun intended.

I'll see what pics I have of my seats.

Best I can do, seat frame bottom, and seat installed.

That all black seat looks like a 71/72 seat.

Yes, rear seats are different between 2 door and 4 door.
4 door seat bottoms have rounded corners to aid entry.
The backs should be the same, though.

I think your seller lied to you just to make a sale. The wider seats are most likely from a Cbody car. As for the metal tags, I'd be willing to bet that the 7 digit part number is for the bare seat spring assembly by itself. Finished seat assemblies with the covers installed will have a completely different part number. It is/was Chrysler's way of doing things. Same as the casting number on an engine block. That number is for the casting itself. The fully machined bare block with bearing caps, frost plugs and cam bearings in it will have a totally different part number.

Yep....looks like the 22xxxxx tag is an early 62-65 seat and the 352xxxxx seat is from a later 1970 up seat......the seat tag code follows the years to a point unless used for following years......my 2 cents of knowledge....
