Can you top my 8-Track collection?

I just had my restored/updated. It's now AM/FM 8 Track, Bluetooth, MP3, handsfree, USB, Aux, and I have the 8 track to cassette adapter. I just listen to Sirius XM 60's, 70's, 80's on it

Had a underdash hang on 8 Track in my '67 Olds 442 in 1967....I bought it new! I remember sitting at the Dairy Queen eating a BBQ and drinking a shake listening to The Mamas and Papas "California Dreamin". Ahhhh, those were the days. Sounded like crap by todays standards.
OK... I "know" that they sounded like crap by modern/objective standards, but I still might argue the point; was just talking about this the other day with a friend. I have a pretty decent 'stereo' in my Jeep - no 'contest winner ' , but pretty fair for an 'adult', and I noted that when 'Whole Lotta Love' came on and I cranked it, the sound seemed inferior to the same song in my 70 Roadrunner with factory front and back speakers [1 each] played thru the Craig AM FM indash 8 track bitd.... I know the 'front to back movement' of the 'chorus' was better back then. Any thoughts? Some 'reason' or just a beatific memory?
Also, does anybody else still 'wait' / look for the pause and ka chunk of the track change on certain songs and albums?

those were the days walking around with a boom box with a 8 track tape hanging out the side of it dancing down the street . i miss those days listening to Janis and jimmy

I only have about 20 or so left - tucked away in a box in my garage. Pulled out the best for playing....most of the others were Big Band compilations, or Musicals and Opera stuff......not exactly Muscle Car tunes.

One night back in the late '70's, running the gravel roads around South Mountain, Pa. (there was/is a 'nice' bar/hotel in South Mountain) anyhow a 'Best of Bread' 8-track got ate by the player and she (the girl I was with that night) pulls out the 8-track and it goes flying past my head and out the drivers side window. I was glad the window was down.

I know I can account for 133 8-tracks. Now I may need to just count them and see.
White, Black, Red, Blue, Green and White cases, yep the colors did make it quick to find certain tapes.
EDIT: I just counted them and that is how I came up with 133, 33 more then I thought.

Well. I can't provide proof, but I HAD over 500 of the damn things. I still have a splicing kit, a demagnitizer for the head and splice tape. That along with those long Q-tips for cleaning the head and head cleaner. . After that I started buying cassettes and and had a hundred of more of them. Now it's CD's which over the last 25 years or so finally have all the titles I still love and more in a format that (hopefully) will last! I had vinyl before that and my younger brothers ruined most of those but I only had around 50 of them. The sad part besides the money invested was having to buy the same albums in several different formats. I think that many rock groups owe me money back for supporting their lavish life styles for so long! Now I copy the CD's to computer and download them to little Sandisk Clipsport for portability. You see, I had long commutes to work for many years; over 36 years driving over a hundred miles a day & needed music to help keep me awake. Got tired of commercials and crap. I tried to sell my 8 tracks but the cost of shipping exceeded their worth so into the dumpster they went! :(
Ok, all these posts peeked my interest. My experience was brief in the 8-track experience while growing up as I started driving in 78' and there were family cars that had the 8 track with seemingly no issues that I can remember. However, I now own a 78' Lincoln and 73' Imperial, both with 8-track players. Over the last two years I have been gifted boxes of 8-tracks from friends parents passing (much appreciated). I am curious as my cars are in storage a good deal, is there anything that should be done that could prevent any issues causing need for splicing and demagnetizing as mentioned in this thread? And yes, brings back memories.

In high school in the 90's I had a 71 with 8 track and I'd plug in the 8 track to cassette adapter and then my cassette to discman adapter, sounded great!
I only had a few working tapes from my dad. Santana, iron butterfly, blood sweat and tears. He did have one blank one that I recorded kiss alive off the album with my parents' console stereo.

MOPAR Friends: My 1969 Charger came from the factory with the code R22 AM/8-Track radio (see photos). And yes, it's one of the few factory 8-track players that still work. Naturally, I wanted a diverse selection of music to play, so I've been collecting 8-track cartridges for many years. As of this morning, I have 358 of them, all of which work. I've found a way to disassemble and repair them when the tapes break (usually at the signal tape splice) or when the foam pressure pads crumble. I'm claiming to have the largest operable 8-track tape collection on the B body website. So the challenge has been issued! Can you top this? If so, you must provide photographic evidence as I have below. Even if you don't have a lot of tapes, feel free to weigh in with your 8-track stories from back in the day. All submissions are welcome. Now go down into the basement and count up those tapes - and remember: They have to actually work to count. Who will knock me off the top? Game on!

The glue on the splicing foil tape just degrades over time. Nothing you can really do about that except buy the kit and repair them.

I have a 'special' 8-track, Deep Purple's Machine Head. It was custom cut/spliced by me to continually play Smoke on the Water on one track. That tape was inserted at special times when I wanted to torment the other driver in the left hand lane while rolling side by side. Yea, it made me feel BAD ***.:poke:. Wait, I was BAD ***, I drove a Charger.

It seems like moisture will make the cover labels wrinkled.
