nice stuff. sure beats my WD 40 straw collection
OK... I "know" that they sounded like crap by modern/objective standards, but I still might argue the point; was just talking about this the other day with a friend. I have a pretty decent 'stereo' in my Jeep - no 'contest winner ' , but pretty fair for an 'adult', and I noted that when 'Whole Lotta Love' came on and I cranked it, the sound seemed inferior to the same song in my 70 Roadrunner with factory front and back speakers [1 each] played thru the Craig AM FM indash 8 track bitd.... I know the 'front to back movement' of the 'chorus' was better back then. Any thoughts? Some 'reason' or just a beatific memory?Had a underdash hang on 8 Track in my '67 Olds 442 in 1967....I bought it new! I remember sitting at the Dairy Queen eating a BBQ and drinking a shake listening to The Mamas and Papas "California Dreamin". Ahhhh, those were the days. Sounded like crap by todays standards.
I remember these two, RECORD CLUB OF AMERICA and COLUMBIA HOUSE.I remember as a kid getting into those 10 (or whatever it was) 8-tracks for a penny. Then you had to buy 4 ore at regular prices. Sold all mine at a thrift sale 30+ years ago.
had a lot of those, too many moves I always toss a lot of stuff moving, I remember the nazareth tape was easy to find it had a OD green case
Ok, all these posts peeked my interest. My experience was brief in the 8-track experience while growing up as I started driving in 78' and there were family cars that had the 8 track with seemingly no issues that I can remember. However, I now own a 78' Lincoln and 73' Imperial, both with 8-track players. Over the last two years I have been gifted boxes of 8-tracks from friends parents passing (much appreciated). I am curious as my cars are in storage a good deal, is there anything that should be done that could prevent any issues causing need for splicing and demagnetizing as mentioned in this thread? And yes, brings back memories.Well. I can't provide proof, but I HAD over 500 of the damn things. I still have a splicing kit, a demagnitizer for the head and splice tape. That along with those long Q-tips for cleaning the head and head cleaner. . After that I started buying cassettes and and had a hundred of more of them. Now it's CD's which over the last 25 years or so finally have all the titles I still love and more in a format that (hopefully) will last! I had vinyl before that and my younger brothers ruined most of those but I only had around 50 of them. The sad part besides the money invested was having to buy the same albums in several different formats. I think that many rock groups owe me money back for supporting their lavish life styles for so long! Now I copy the CD's to computer and download them to little Sandisk Clipsport for portability. You see, I had long commutes to work for many years; over 36 years driving over a hundred miles a day & needed music to help keep me awake. Got tired of commercials and crap. I tried to sell my 8 tracks but the cost of shipping exceeded their worth so into the dumpster they went!
In high school in the 90's I had a 71 with 8 track and I'd plug in the 8 track to cassette adapter and then my cassette to discman adapter, sounded great!
I have a box of 8 tracks and use them ocassionally.MOPAR Friends: My 1969 Charger came from the factory with the code R22 AM/8-Track radio (see photos). And yes, it's one of the few factory 8-track players that still work. Naturally, I wanted a diverse selection of music to play, so I've been collecting 8-track cartridges for many years. As of this morning, I have 358 of them, all of which work. I've found a way to disassemble and repair them when the tapes break (usually at the signal tape splice) or when the foam pressure pads crumble. I'm claiming to have the largest operable 8-track tape collection on the B body website. So the challenge has been issued! Can you top this? If so, you must provide photographic evidence as I have below. Even if you don't have a lot of tapes, feel free to weigh in with your 8-track stories from back in the day. All submissions are welcome. Now go down into the basement and count up those tapes - and remember: They have to actually work to count. Who will knock me off the top? Game on!

The glue on the splicing foil tape just degrades over time. Nothing you can really do about that except buy the kit and repair them.Ok, all these posts peeked my interest. I only had a few working tapes from my dad. Santana, iron butterfly, blood sweat and tears. He did have one blank one that I recorded kiss alive off the album with my parents' console stereo.
I do not remember using those on 8-tracks. Aren't they centers for 45 records.pulling on the tape to get it back in ( snapping it to get it back in ) those were the days View attachment 1333534
It seems like moisture will make the cover labels wrinkled.Ok, all these posts peeked my interest.
