I need to do some electrical work behind the dash of my '73 RR and for some reason the radio won't come loose from the instrument cluster panel. I obviously took the shaft nuts off and the nut on the stud in the back that holds it up but it appears to be stuck to the instrument cluster on the right side (the side opposite of the knobs). It seems to be free from the dash itself. I tried taking the whole instr. cluster out with the radio still attached but it isn't slipping out easily with all the extra weight and I don't want to break it forcing it out. I also tried taking out the ash tray to see if I could spot the problem: I couldn't get it all the way out either, but I got it out enough to realize that I can't see what the problem is. My next step is to take the lower heater duct out to try to gain more access or vision to try to spot the hang-up. I might even take the shifter console out since it being in the way isn't help matters any. This is very frustrating since radios I've taken out of other cars always just drop out the back once I get the shafts nuts and back brace nut off.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You need to remove the ash tray and it's frame as there is a screw at the front of the radio and you can only easily get to it from the ash tray opening with a 1/4 inch drive and socket with an extension.
