I'm doing an article about aftermarket audio for classic cars (Mopars in general) and wanted to get pictures of any audio systems that you've installed that required cutting your dash/bezel, or mounting in a different location (like glovebox, etc.)

If you can post pics of where or how you mounted your modern stereo that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had my stock radio updated but I hope you get a lot of feedback because my stock setup just is not making it for me.

I will post some pics later today, but I'm installing a modern radio that will fit into my 65 dash (even the plastic bezel) without cutting anything up. I hope I get some feedback from those who have had to modify because it helps illustrate how cool this radio is.

Can you tell me how much you paid and what your disappointments are? Thanks!

I had the radio repaired as it had loose knob inserts and the clutch for tuning was frozen. Also they added modern AM / FM conversion, a auxiliary input kit for my ipod (Bluetooth was 6 months away) and a line out kit for a amp if I wanted. They did great work and I also purchased a front and a rear speaker complete for $558. It all works fine but I really want a more full sound with more power.

When I bought my 63 Fury someone had already cut the dash to install a stereo. I purchased a Custom Autosound unit that has AM/FM, ipod hook-up and remote CD capability. I fabbed a custom faceplate from 1/8" aluminum and polished it to match my Vintage Air face-plate. I'm very happy with it for less than $275.00 spent.

Wow, great stuff guys, thanks. So here's a teaser picture of the radio installed. it took a couple hours to measure things up and install it. This is with zero holed drilled, and no cutting.

Features:
4 speaker output (hi level)
4 RCA output (lo level)
2 Subwoofer output (RCA)
Fully digital: iPod, USB (2), Bluetooth ready (w/mic)
phony AM radio faceplate. This is the Redondo from RetroSound

For my 65 Satellite I just put a thin 2-channel amp under the seat with Velcro and added a two cone 6x9" rear speaker since there's only one factory hole back there. Input is my ipod. Sounds quite good for what it is, IMO you don't need concert quality sound just because there's so much noise in these cars to start with. This is a super easy & cheap setup (a bit north of $100) and involves absolutely no cutting or even touching your original radio.

With just that one 6x9 hole in the rear deck, how did you add your speakers in the rear? I'm not looking for thumping sound either, just need to have something for those long drives.

Don't remember the exact speaker I used but was something like this, if you search you can find lots of them. It does negate the stereo effect for the most part because the speakers are so close together but it's vastly better than any original radio. With my little amp you can crank it 'til your ears hurt without distortion but I don't really care for that anyway.

Okay, that's what I thought. I have one similar to that from Retrosound for the front speaker. I'm going to use their 6x9 pods to mount to my rear deck (the carpeted board on the shelf) so I can have them on the side and not cut any holes.

So this is pretty cool. I had removed my stock heater core and controls, and was left with the panel (with four rectangular~ish holes and the slot for the temp lever). I figured I could use the holes for USB leads, and with a little bit of filing/shaping, the leads press-fit into the holes. There's a guy who makes the delete panel with just two of those holes, I'm hoping he starts making them again... then I'll be set. Of course, the other thought is to put an LED shift light in one of the additional holes, and some other indicator light in the other.

I'm in the midst of planning a stereo for my '64 Polara and would like to see ideas for speakers up front. Anybody have a cool solution and want to share your photos?
