Just got the Oct. issue of Car Crap and I tell ya, those idiots really need to get some education on Mopar 8 3/4. On page 72 they are calling the cone style sure grip a CLUTCH STYLE SURE GRIP and they do it a few time in the whole article, and they show pictures!!

Nobody read that article????

I let my subscription run out on that one... it was ok in general.

Mopar Action is the only one worth a snot anymore because of Rick Ehrenberg. All the rest are just fly by nights. Mopar Muscle? Really? Are you kiddin? I used to actually like Car Craft years ago. They're all pretty much a waste of money now. Except for Rick, nobody's any fun anymore.

I still have my subscription to CC, but only because their long term subscriptions are so dirt cheap. Most of the articles are only trying to steer you into buying their advertisers products so that most of the mag is really just advertising. They do make some pretty obvious errors with some of their articles and some of their builds don't make much sense.:icon_scratch:

The reference they make to the pic on page 72 is correct. That IS a clutch type sure grip unit. I just looked at it.

Funny thing:
I get a envelope in the mail 3 months ago. It has on the front: Muscle Car Review, one of my FAV mags. So i open it, it is a post card return postage paid and it has a 2 yr offer discount. I check the box, mail it and it ends up being CAR CRAP. I did not "read the fine print".
So, I bring every issue into workand give it to the local chevy guy.

I quit getting all the car rags, probably near 5 years ago now, way too much modern stuff & Brand X/Mustangs & Camaros for my liking & I use to race with both Brand X & Mopar stuff for many years also...

RustyRat, you may wanna take another gander at the pics on page 72, there is not a clutch style sure grip pictured. As matter of fact, the only clutch style sure grip they show is on page 70 at the top and alsoon the bottom right side, you can barely see it.

We used to call it "camaro craft".

MCR is definitey a step above most others.

No, I know what I'm lookin at. Look at the "bump" in the case half opposite the ring gear. There's one just like it on the other side. Cone types do NOT have that. Know what it's for? To hold the tangs on the clutches. We have about 15 or so layin around the shop just like it.

Keep in mind, there was moer than ONE style of clutch type sure grip. There was the two pinion, which that one IS on page 72, and there was the one everyone associates with being a sure grip, the four pinion, or Dana Power Lock. The Power Lock was used mostly in trucks and high performance apps, while the two pinion or "Track Lock" if you will was used in everything else that had a sure grip. The cone type cases didn't have the bumps to house the clutches. We got plenty of them too.

The pics show only a cone type. but as state earlier, the clutch type is on page 70. The pics also show the opening for springs, (cone style). That is what is showed being installed with the 2 guys, so, I respectfully disagree that it is a clutch style sure grip. But if you have any pics of the 3 sure grips that you are referring to, would you post them so we can all see and learn something?

It's the 7th post where the second link is, click on it.

I can't access that link. But no biggie. I've been wrong before....it's nuffion new. lol

Well I'm a card carrying member of the "I've been wrong before club" also, lol. By having this forum we all can learn from one another, ie, I didn't know about a 2 pinion sure grip and have been looking over the web to find out about it, thanks for that info.
