Was there from late 71 until early 73 and you ain't wrong about not seeing many American cars there but the ones that stand out the most was seeing a 49 Merc 4 door drive up to the Morbach ammo dump on a weekend when there was no one there except two cops with me being on the gate and the other guy doing a parameter check at the time. Oh man the stuff that went through my mind and got on the radio for him to get back to the gate asap lol. Another time was seeing a 69 or 70 Corvette (heck, didn't know my Corvettes all that well back then) and a 69 road runner pair off at a traffic light in Frankfurt and yeah, they nailed it when the green came on. Made me homesick as could be!I lived in Germany from 1974-1976 and back then, seeing American cars, were the ones that the Army, and Air Force service members had shipped over to Germany.
Rare to see a German national driving around in American iron.
I was Air Force at the Zweibrucken Air Base.
Well, they did start importing them in 49. I was probably about 6 (1957) the first time I saw one then it wasn't long after that I saw another that was involved in a crash....and the bug nor the driver fared too well.Nothing like the numbers of VW’s that roam the roads here
