Car transporters/shippers

I have a good one that i have never had a problem with ,I have shipped several cars from California to Florida if you need a # let me know

Why? Does the wind make it scratch the clearcoat/paint? Or are you saying don't ever transport open-trailer at all, and always spend the extra $500 for enclosed?

Nevermind on the car cover question. Apparently the law is you can't even have a cover on a car on an open trailer, unless you're a dealer. I guess DOT doesn't trust anyone to actually put one on correctly and tight, but they do give dealers an exception. Chime up if you know anything else about this "law".

Not knowing about the law, but no matter how well you have it secured it will flap and wear on the cars finish.

Does any body have anything good to say about any of these companies. I have had a project car bought for almost a month and am having a very frustrating experience trying to get it moved from California to Wisconsin. Lies, promises, deadlines come and go, more lies and promises and then more money. All I have dealt with seem to be scam artists, liars, and cheats. Now I hear that if I can get my car on a truck, sometimes the driver will be told that he is due a certain amount of money upon delivery. This amount will be higher than what the broker told me. If I don't pay the driver the inflated price they will just impound the car. None of these companies are required to be affiliated with the BBB. So what is a guy to do?

This was an excellent question with great input. Possibly a good idea to make it a sticky ... what do you guys think? Should we alert Joey?

for those whom haven't ever hauled a car across country on an open trailer, it ain't a pretty sight, when you get to your destination, if the car a decent quality paint job, with any real value "AT ALL", just keeping all the road-dirt, diesel soot, rock chips, brake dust, regular dust, sand, rain water spots, acid rain, wind blown sand blasting, pine or any tree pitch/sap, people always messing with it, snow &/or hail-damage, you name it, you never know going cross country... If you did know, you would/should & you will step up & pay the extra money for an enclosed hauler or trailer, if you care "at all" about your ride... IMHFO open trailers are fine for short trips, or hauling trips by the owner, that will take steps to actually, take care of the car, but even going from where I live, on a short trip/jaunt, from up in the sticks, just down to the valley/flatland areas, it gets covered with bugs, soot, road dirt, brake dust, pine pitch etc., just in a 100 mile trip, multiply that X - 15-20-30 times going cross country.... Also the better more reputable companies & rigs, have air ride too, it's not so hard on the car... I'm just saying...LOL...

i would recommend INTERCITY LINES. they came to pick up my SRT and went over it with a check list. loaded it up. used a micro fiber blanket, then used a car cover, every car had a tarp underneath so nothing can drip onto another car, and the husband and wife were very professional and the semi and 53 foot enclosed was clean and polished. that tells alot on how they are gonna treat there cargo. just my opinion. thats who i would use again. dont care if they were not the cheapest, my car arrived 100% perfect.

I have used uship .com for the last 10 years. You register post your add and within an hour you have 3 quotes. I bought a Machine and had it shipped from Wisconsin to pa excellent transaction.
I just shipped a car to my brother in Tulsa ok excellent deal.
Motorcycle to same place, excellent
I bought some equipment in SC and they picked up and delivered to Pa, excellent.
I am waiting on a delivery now from Tn. And like always smooth deal.
Not sure if by laws permit price quoting on here so pm me for any other input or questions. You can request how you would like it hauled. I have found nothing else this cheap to transport.

Good to know. My paranoid side is worried about hail (Spring weather can be nutty going right through Tornado Alley), so I might shell out the extra coin for enclosed. Wish it wasn't so much more. That's money I could use to buy something for the car instead. :(

I used get it done transport you need to ask for David Pein here is his number 954-688-9190 .He is a broker, I went through the same thing you are going through right now a few months ago and let me tell you the transporters can bend you over even easier than a broker! They watch the dispatch boards even more so then the brokers do .It cost me $1090.00 to get my car from California to Tennessee .David said it would take three days to get a driver and it took 2 .I had my car within 6 days,I'd say that was pretty good! He and his driver are 100% professionals .I went with him based on his reviews not, from his site but from an independent transport site, even the people he couldn't help gave him great reviews, that's all I needed. When you check out reviews anything with a green dot beside it means the company paid them to give a good review stay away from those companies and the ones that are cheap as well.David wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive but his service are top notch. If your car is not running it will cost you more because the trucker has to load it.David got 290.00 to do the hassle work and believe me it was worth it to me! I spent countless hours day after day trying to figure out who to go with, it sucked! The driver got 800 when he dropped off the car.The truck and trailer were top notch from front to back I even have photos of them loading the car.His driver was a little hard to understand but he was a really nice guy and professional all the way.David will be with you through the whole process from start to finish! I cant say enough about the service I received from Get It Done transport they are great. DSC05497.jpgDSC05501 (1).jpgDSC05493.jpg

I've used Intercity a few times with no problems whatsoever.

I have used Intercity also. Once coast to coast on an open trailer and then coast to coast in an enclosed trailer. Great people to deal with and fast, efficient service. Drivers really do care. They both called numerous times enroute to keep me informed of their progress. Would use them again in a heart beat...

X2 what Richard said, Intercity shipped my 63 plymouth from Florida to Maryland, picked it up and delivered on time.

I think most of the brokers can take care of a drivable vehicle, some better and more honest than others of course. It is a whole nother can of worms when you are trying to have a non operational one moved. That is when it really gets frustrating.

I have had bad luck using a broker. Have had 2 cars delivered using a broker, 1st time the price ended up being more than quoted, second time the carrier's rig broke down and it took two weeks for him to dispatch another rig to get to the broken one. Next time I will go with Reliable.

NEVER NEVER NEVER USE A BROKER.
It took me two years to get rid of all of the spams and popups that resulted in my making an online inquire to get a car shipped. DON'T DO IT, AND USE A INCLOSED TO BE SURE.

I'm celebrating tonight. Sold a car 6 weeks ago (Fla to Calif) and it was picked up today. Buyer went to a broker and was lowballed. Over the weeks he was worked by 50% over the original quote. I was stuck with storage, risk of breakage, and accident plus being on call for pick up. What a relief.

Bump!
I am looking to buy a project car in Arkansas and will need it transported to Orlando, FL. The paint is already shot so I don't think I need it to be transported inside a trailer. Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable transporter?
Thanks,
Ken

Bump! Anyone have someone they can recommend?
Thanks,

I have used uship.com for construction equipment, trucks, motorcycles, and one new car pa to Oklahoma. It works for me, give it a post and see who responds.

I have had good luck with Uship also. Have transported 4 farm tractors and some smaller items. Plan on about $1 per loaded mile on an open trailer. You can specify enclosed trailer if desired.
