I'm trying to get Ins. on my car, so doing a little shopping. I called the guy I use for business and home and they quoted a little over 400.00 for full coverage 500,000/500,000 glass the works.

This is with the car valued at 40,000.00, nice round figure but figure thats what I'm going to be into this for. Yea I know it's high, but I've been having fun.

So I tried Haggerty, I think theres was around 600.00.

Then I tried a place called Conlon /Skelley and they quoted a little over 200.00 so I sent them payment and app. all filled out. Got a call on fri. from a girl there and she asked me how I came up with the 40,000 value. Now per the conversation I had a couple days before with a guy there he never asked how I came up with the value but just told me to send in some pictures.

Anyways this girl says it's in the books for 8 - 10 K, so I told her what I paid and body work and such and thats how I came up to the dollar amount. She wants me to send in receipts to show value. Which I will.

Just wondering how everyone here insures there cars? Like in a fire, total loss situation you would want to made whole right?

Thoughts??????

I would like to know also, I have only heard of Grundy or Haggerty.
I know they have even have Insurance for when you are restoring your car!

Get a appraisal.Hagerty does also do a agreed value.

Usually with collector car insurance it does not matter what the value is, they price the insurance accordingly. If you say its $40k they quote for that and insure for that much.

I have spoke with a few different companies and some require an appraissal over a certian amount. Other are agreed value although, they want pictures to verify condition. Some have restrictions about mileage, age of drivers, and storage of vehicle in garage.Check around I use J.C.Taylor. You really don't know how good they are unless you have been paid on a claim or know someone who was satisfied with a settlement of a claim.I have been fortunate not to have had to file a claim, 14 years.

Get your money back, now! If you ever need to file a claim, it's obvious that they are going to fight you tooth and nail. The fact that they are using a book value would scare the $hit out of me, because you will never get your value back from them. Go with any of the name brands with "agreed value". You decide how much to insure it for, and you pay based on that.

i went with hagerty it was simple filled out application and emailed pics said what i wanted it insured for and made payment and it was done the rate i thought was real reasonable also.

I just did a Hagerty quote 3 weeks ago for 40,000. Quoted 482.00 for the year and that was with 120 mile towing. (just in case) I ain't leavin it! I agree with the others on agreed value. I just put it on my insurance till Hagerty goes trough and as was said by others, they WILL try to give book value. There are other locals but as I have found they want to nickel and dime you until your payment will put MONEY in thier pockets. Just my 2 cents.

Guess it's my fault for waiting till the last min. to get this thing insured, and I'm getting impatient, but I can't believe it can be this complicated.

So I scrapped the deal with Conlon / Skully and decided to go with the agent that handles my other insurances. I just get the policy that they are running through Hagerty and in checking it over I see they have it listed as stock, God forbid something happens I don't want the ins. company saying the car was not what was listed. I call them and tell them about the engine and then I had to send them a pic. of the motor which they will forward to Hagerty. WTF !

Get your car appraised with a certified appraisor--they typically want to see receipts and then will issue an appraisal for replacement value of that amount--if the vehicle appears to require that much to put it back in case of a claim. Because my car is modified (according to Hagerty), they wanted a little over $900 to insure it for "Agreed Value". Grundy was $540 and Conden & Skelly now holds my policy at Agreed Value of $55,000 for an annual premium of $380.

What was the ballpark price for appraisal?

Forgot to add: The finished and bound appraisal included color pictures taken by the appraisor. Conden & Skelly wanted an original color copy of the appraisal for my file. Once that was sent in, my policy was issued. I haven't had a claim, but their reputation is sterling and I'm very comfortable driving anywhere with the belief they'll stand behind me should something happen.

My appraisal cost me $150. The appraisor made an appointment with me for a Saturday morning--came to my house--staged the car--took several pic's (interior, underhood, trunk, underbody, side panels, etc.) reviewed my receipt folder (one by one) took a narative from me on the building of the car--one week later, delivered two bound full color copies that included a cover letter and a copy of his Certified Appraisor certificate along with full page color photos--an impressive piece.

Exactly my experience with Hagerty. I think mine is $250 per year for a 35k value.

I am pretty sure I was covered that same day too.

I have been with Hagerty for 15 years and they are the best. It is always agreed value. If your car is really worth a certain amount they have no problem insuring it for that amount. They update their values every couple of months and they look at auction sales, private sales, Hemmings and several other sources to arrive at a number. All that is ever asked from me is a picture of the car. If you have a quality car, they will insure it for a fair amount. If it is a rough driver with all kinds of mods and headers etc. don't expect it to be considered a valuable collector car.

Mission Accomplished! Insurance in place with Hagerty. I placed it through the agency that handles my other insurance and I got a rate cheaper than I got quoted on my own from the Hagerty website.:icon_scratch:

Oh well tomorrow if I get a chance I will go and try to get the car registered.:)

I AGREE.i use hagerty.
stay away from american collectors car insurance out of cherry hill,nj.
worst customer service, most expensive and takes forever to get your insurance cards from them.

Picked up 10 day temp. markers. Big relieve! I was imagining them telling me the car was stolen or something out of the ordinary, but seems to be a-o-k.
