After the success of the car starting up. I did notice an issue. THe car is on the jackstands and it was going into reverse. I put it in first and drive and it did fine there but I couldnt get it into park. Is there any advice on how to adjust the middle console or check the shift forks on the transmission? I believe this is one of the reasons it will not crank from the key.

I will say this though when I was in South Dakota the car started up from the key and it was in park and I put it into drive back into park after going 50 feet and reverse and back into park and it was working fine even when I got it on the trailer I put it into park.

See the sticky thread about 727's in this section. In there you will se a picture of someones hands holding 2 levers. On your car, crawl under it on the drivers side and you will see two levers similar to the ones in the picture. One is on top of the other. The lever on the bottom is for the shifter. the rod attached to the lever should have a way to adjust it. Take the rod of the lever by removing the pin. Push the lever as far forwarxd as it will go. This should be park. Is the car still on stands? Hope so. Try and turn the drive shaft. It should be locked. Now make sure the shifter is in park. With the shifter in park, and the lever all the way forward, adjust the rod so that is slides into the hole on the lever without having to move the lever. As long as nothing is bent, this should be good.

I agree with Hemi, It sounds like you have an adjustment out. another thing to check would be the button or whatever is used to depress the shifter so as to move it to one gear or another, It could be maybe locked up or stuck a little preventing it from moving?

I havent had a chance to look at the tranny shift fork yet but I will say this in neutral it does the same thing it goes into revers same with the park. I am going to look at it tonight though to confirm whats going on.

Great news, Its always great when you find its something simple, instead of the "big job", "big money" thing.. back to your fun now, enjoy!
