I have a 4326s carter afb carb that has some slop in the shafts. Does anyone have any experience with someone who has bushed old afb's, and re-plated the components on it, such as the brackets?

I would recommend you measure the slop in the shaft/housing (using a dial indicator) and check against spec, as it always seems to feel worse than it actually is.

Contacting Jon at "The Carburettor Shop" in Missouri who has restored many AFBs before I restored mine on this topic earned this response -

The Carter AFB/AVS have a much greater "bearing surface" than the others, and the entire lower bowl/throttle body is aluminum.
Interesting (at least to me) is that the AFB/AVS do not seem to wear. We have never HAD to bush one of these (except for one owner who demanded it be bushed).
Carter AFB, AVS series shaft clearance 0.016~0.022 inch (THIS IS NOT A MISPRINT!)
Restoring my AFBs to like new was not particularly difficult, and was very rewarding. See - http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?55818-Carter-AFB-restoration&highlight=Carter+AFB+restoration

0.016 to 0.022 inches is definitely correct!?

How exactly do you guys measure the shaft movement?

It's what a guy who has rebuilt 1000's of Carter carbs told me.

I believe he is measuring throttle shaft to body clearance, which would be up and down if the carb is sitting upright.

Thank you. I measured mine and I never got above .02 so I believe that I am good to go in this regard. Just have to get new floats.
