Do you think a 750 holley is too much carb for a built 383, about a 500 hp engine, not wild but very strong. Am I just asking for problems with too much fuel for the motor? Anyone using this size?

Nope. What carb are you looking at? DP or a 3310 type?

i'm running a 750 holley with vac secondaries on my built 383, and it runs great! I was also looking at the 770 holley vac sec too. I think either is just fine.

It is a dual feed vac secondary. Supposedly like new, 60.00 seems like a good deal maybe.

60 bucks for a 750 sounds cheap....you know how to work on them I hope?

Have worked on them before long ago, always have float adjustment trouble, not my first choice but I know people if I cant get it right.

carb size

i just bought a quick fuel 850 mech sec 4150 style carb for my 440 its probably right at 500 hp slightly under but the motor is eating every bit of the carb no problems runs great you could get away with a 750 but there wouldnt be much room for upgrades or growing room in the future. you could get a little bit more by changing out jets but the carb is only going to be able to deliver so much.

if you do have 500hp. from the 383 the carb shouldn't be to big. i am guessing that your 500hp. number is an estimate
not a dyno number. to get to that number you have done a
lot of mods. it takes air and gas to make power if everything
in the internals is in sync.
at 60.00$ for the carb, buy it, try it and if you are not happy it will get you a 100.00 or more in barter value. thats a big hp jump for a 383 and it takes fuel to make power.

Just going by what the guy that did the motor estimated it at. He thought a 800 would be right but Ill try this carb first its way cheaper. I have a 383 stroker in a chevy and it works good with a 800. Yes I said chevy lol. The cfm charts come out at anywhere from 625 to 750 for my motor depending on how you read them.

That does seem pretty low. Probably because it's vac sec. The 750 seems like a good size to go with your doing street/strip driving.
