Hey Guy's.....looking for some help advise here. I have an Edelbrock 8867 4 barrel on My 440....it's running like a pig at the moment.(hard to start, won't idle smooth, backfires on reving)....this seems to be since running low on gas....it has a new tank and lines, filter and the carb is new as well.
But I think I have sucked in some crap...it's more than a stale fuel problem.
Are these carbs hard to pull down and clean out? or do I need a specialist? if it was a carter or holley? no problems..

I found my AVS was full of rust dust from a crappy Autozone filter a few months ago. I took it apart, blew it out, regasketed it and had it back together in a matter of a couple of hours. And I've only cracked open a carb twice before - once this one, once the original BBD. It's easy if you keep track of your parts (I like the empty egg carton and ziploc bag method).

IIRC the edelbrocks are based on a carter design....

Ive had to tear down Carter carbs myself, not much different, there not that hard as said, You may want to contact Edlebrock themselves and explain the same to them and see what they say.. They do have a tech department you can speak with. This link is to the tech department and they do have some videos, and maybe some other things that could help, i didn't go thru them but it may be a help, and calling them also maybe.. worth a shot if anything.. Good luck and i Hope this helps some...

I have taken apart my 800 AVS, bought it used and had to adjust he floats and change jets etc. if there is going to be debris in it it will be in the bowl most likely.

You can open the top half with out even taking it off the car, of course it is easier to take it off and bench it but it is possible to clean it out while in the car.

Torque screws on the top I think about 6-8 of them.
