I installed a Carter 4968S on my '71 GTX after a couple years (rebuilt ).I want the original look and removed a problematic Edelbrock. My problem is the choke valve won't open when carb is floored. There is some binding of the linkage. I have this issue with or without choke or throttle cable attached. It's a carb issue. I have the carb off the car and the linkage looks correct.Does anyone know a Carb shop I could mail it to that could make this right?

Besides the choke linkage, how about the choke plate itself maybe binding.
Pull those two screws holding the choke diaphram, undo the linkage, and you should be able to tell what's binding. Should be a easy adjustment.

Here is a pic of one out of the box. Can't tell from your pic if the linkage is as flush to the carb body or not.

Carb. in my hand, Throttle lever Tang does not contact the choke unloader Tang, not even close. The choke valve moves freely. But It will not open the way it should.bee71 if you could post more pics (both sides)I would be grateful.

Your right about the choke unloader as that is part of the mechanical linkage that if you floor the eng and the choke is still most of the way closed then a piece of the linkage will force the choke open some which is called the choke unloader. Normally you dont floor a car untill its warmed up some and usually by then the choke is allready fully open by the choke coil heating up. But your right saying if the carb is sitting there with the choke closed and you floor the linkage part of the likage should force the choke open which is the choke unloader. Its late but I will look through my books tomorrow and see if I can find a good pic for you of it. Ron

EXACTLY ,383man. Here is the situation: Cold engine ,car stalls it's flooded.choke valve won't open when floored or by moving throttle lever.
Here is a pic of wide open throttle, Choke still not opening as it should. Bending the choke unloader Tang still does no good.

Rebuilt carb...your probably looking at somewhere in all the choke adjustments, something is off. If you have a copy of the overhaul instructions, I'd suggest you might go back through ALL of the choke related adjustments. What's wrong will show up...then adjust it. All those adjustments must be done in the correct order, since one affects the other. Might simply be the choke high idle speed, and unloader.
That's all as long as nothing in the linkage is hanging up anywhere.
